List of Monster High characters

Mattel's fashion doll franchise Monster High features a variety of fictional characters, many of whom are students at the titular high school. The female characters are classified as Ghouls and the male characters are classified as Mansters. The characters are generally the sons and daughters, or related to monsters that have been popularized in fiction. The franchise's official website identifies six of the characters as Original Ghouls. In addition to the listed Ghouls and Mansters, there are other characters who have been introduced in the franchise's related media including the web/video and book series.

Main characters

Six of the Monster High characters have been classified as Original Ghouls by the official website.[1]

Frankie Stein

Frankie Stein (voiced by Kate Higgins, singing voice done by Allison Iraheta) is the daughter of Frankenstein's monster and his bride and the granddaughter of Victor Frankenstein's (since Victor had built her parents). Frankie is the sweetest, heartiest girl at Monster High, and believes that everyone's flaws make them unique. Starting at 15 days old, she is also the youngest student at Monster High. She is very optimistic and never gives up in the face of adversity. However, since all of her prior knowledge about teen relationships came from magazines, she can be a bit naive and inexperienced in teenage issues.

Being a Frankenstein's monster herself, she has light green skin and her body is literally stitched together. Because of this, her arms and legs can be detached from her body and still move, which she has used several times to help her friends. Early on, her limbs often flew off accidentally, but she has gotten much better at controlling them. Along with this, she is powered by lightning and has to be recharged every night as seen in "New Ghoul at School". She can also emit lightning for self-defense and to power electronics in a pinch, but most often ends up accidentally shocking people. Her eyes are two different colors, the right one being blue and the left one being green, and her hair is white with black streaks.

She has romantic feelings for Neighthan Rot as seen in "Monster High: Freaky Fusion", which seems to be mutual.

Clawdeen Wolf

Clawdeen Wolf (voiced by Salli Saffioti) is the daughter of the Werewolf. Clawdeen is sixteen years old and comes from a rather large family, though she has only had three known siblings seen so far (Clawdia, Clawd and Howleen). She also calls herself "The Alpha Wolf of Style". Her best friends are Frankie Stein and Draculaura (whose father sometimes objects when Clawdeen visits her). She complains about her younger sister Howleen (with whom she shares a bunk bed) because Howleen is constantly chewing on her shoes, borrowing her clothes, and wiping her nose on her jackets.

Clawdeen has trouble keeping her werewolf side in check; this side of her can emerge at the sight of a full moon or any other similarly bright light source as exemplified in the episode "Talon Show". She is quite strong, being seen holding up at least three ghoulfriends in cheerleading sessions. Clawdeen dreams of owning her own fashion design brand, plays on the soccer team, and in the webisodes, it is shown that she enjoys track and field. Clawdeen disliked Cleo de Nile at first, because she incorrectly thought that Cleo had cheated on Clawd with Deuce Gorgon. After Clawd explains to her that his breakup with Cleo was in fact mutual, Clawdeen and Cleo become frenemies soon after, even though they are both on the fearleading squad. Clawdeen hated the idea of Draculaura and Clawd dating and tried to stop it, even becoming mean and a bully in the process, but, eventually she accepted she was wrong, apologized, and finally approved the relationship.

She has a purple pet kitten named Crescent.

Cleo de Nile

Cleo de Nile (voiced by Salli Saffioti) is the daughter of the Mummy named Ramses de Nile and the younger sister of Nefera. Her father is a mummy. She is 5,842 years old. Her clothing motif is bandages and hair gold. Cleo does not get along with Nefera because Nefera uses every opportunity she can to humiliate her younger sister and get her into trouble with her father.

Cleo is considered spoiled rotten, but sometimes help her friends if necessary. Cleo does have a good heart, but hides it behind her popularity. Cleo is also the tallest girl out of her main group of friends. She is the leader of the fearleading team. Her true love is Deuce Gorgon.

Draculaura

Draculaura (voiced by Debi Derryberry) is a pink-skinned vampire with black and pink hair who is the daughter of Count Dracula. Her primary trademark name was originally Ula D, and now is a shortening for Draculaura, while she is called Lala for short in the books. The character was initially 1,599 years old and turned 1,600 in the webisode "Party Planners" along with Frankie and in the film Why Do Ghouls Fall In Love, with Mattel releasing a doll line based around her birthday.

Draculaura is a vampire who does not consume blood. In the universe of the series, vampires who do not consume blood are called "vegan vampires". She is dating Clawd Wolf, Clawdeen's older brother, and has a pet bat named Count Fabulous, and she absolutely adores pink. Draculaura is one of the most popular monsters at school, due to her friendliness. In Frights, Camera, Action, Draculaura ends up getting her vampire powers unlocked after helping Elissabat.

Draculaura is a sweet, caring, animal-loving girl who dresses her bat, Count Fabulous, all girly-like. Draculaura is a sweet and loving girl and her favorite class is creative-writing. She faints when hearing the word "blood". As the book series progresses, Draculara is referred to as a vegetarian vampire rather than vegan, and the description carries over into later books, the animated series, both show and CGI TV specials.

Ghoulia Yelps

Ghoulia Yelps (vocal effects provided by Audu Paden) is the bespectacled daughter of a zombie couple and Cleo's personal assistant and best friend. She is also a zombie. She has a pet baby blue owl named Sir Hoots-a-Lot. The smartest ghoul at Monster High, Ghoulia is a shy and bookish girl, but Cleo de Nile refuses to let her be the wallflower at a party. She can only speak in the zombie language (moans and groans) due to physical limitations that all zombies have. Ghoulia's social life has improved greatly since befriending Cleo. She is the shortest girl at Monster High. Part of this may be because as a zombie, she never stands up straight.

Ghoulia has a romantic interest in Slo-Moe, a tall male zombie on the chess team. Ghoulia is well-known to be a hardcore fan of "Dead Fast", an in-universe comic book series. She also has a love for the game of dodgeball. Her favorite color is red.

Lagoona Blue

Lagoona Blue (voiced by Laura Bailey in 2010-2015, Larissa Gallagher in 2016-Present) is the daughter of the Gill-man Wade Blue and a sea nymph, who is all fish. She is a kind and loving girl, with a tomboyish style to her clothes, and has problems with Gil's parents due to her sea-monster heritage. However, they started to like her only for being a freshwater monster when she turned into one from Howleen's wish in "13 Wishes". Lagoona is a kind and friendly ghoul who loves swimming. She also loves Gloom Beach and playing water-volleyball. She is dating Gillington "Gil" Webber. Her childhood best friend was Kala Mer'ri, who turns out to be the daughter of the Kraken.

Ghouls

The following female characters in Monster High are referred to as Ghouls:

Abbey Bominable

Abbey Bominable (voiced by Erin Fitzgerald) is the sixteen-year-old daughter of the Yeti and the cousin of Marisol Coxi. She is in a relationship with Heath Burns, who she claims "makes her laugh". During the school week, Abbey stays at Headless Headmistress Bloodgood's house. Abbey's fashions always incorporate ice and fur thematics. Her hair is white with pink, blue and purple streaks through it and often shimmering strands as well. Abbey has yeti-tusks that pop up from the bottom of her mouth, touching her upper lip. Abbey also displays psychokinetic abilities, or the power to form and manipulate ice, being a yeti monster. Shiver is Abbey's pet baby woolly mammoth, with blue skin and white fur.

Amanita Nightshade

Amanita Nightshade (voiced by Heather Moiseve) is a plant monster that was born from the seed of a Corpse Flower, and is titled the "Bad seed of the Corpse Flower".

Avea Trotter

Avea Trotter (voiced by Haviland Stillwell) is one of the new "hybrid" students of Monster High, first appearing in Monster High: Freaky Fusion. She is a hybrid of a Harpy (mother) and a Centaur (father). She has blue hair tied in a ponytail. She has the wings of a Harpy with the horse half of a Centaur. Her skin is purple. She has centaur ears protruding from the top of her head. She is described as a stubborn, opinionated girl who interrupts a lot. She has not appeared in the webisodes to date, but made her debut in the special "Freaky Fusions" where she and the other hybrids help Frankie Stein's friends after they were fused together on the return trip from the past.

Bonita Femur

Bonita Femur (voiced by Geeg Friedman) is one of the new "hybrid" students of Monster High. She is the daughter of the Mothman (father) and a skeleton (mother). Bonita has platinum-blonde hair with pink and black highlights, pale-pink skin and her body is part moth part skeletal. She has enormous pink and yellow wings. She loves shopping for vintage fashions at the flea market. When she gets nervous, she chews through her own clothes. As her skeleton heritage (or "scare-itage"), she is more Moth than Skeleton because in "Freaky Fusion," she describes her young self as a "larvette". Her name is derived from the Spanish word for pretty or cute, as well being a pun on the word "bone". Bonita's pretty similar to Avia in opinion-wise, so she agreed that regular monsters just simply do not like hybrids.

Catrine DeMew

Catrine DeMew (voiced by Kate Higgins in "Scaris: City of Frights", Karen Strassman in Volume 4 and 5) is a white werecat with purple shoulder-length hair who is also an artist from Scaris (the monster version of Paris). The girls meet her while exploring the attractions of Scaris in the special "Scaris: City of Frights" (based on Paris, City of Lights, as Paris is known as "the City of Lights"). Catrine makes several other cameos in said special. She has officially now joined Monster High by Volume 4 starting with "The Eye of the Boo-holder". By Volume 5, in "Casta Vote", she was shown to wear her "New Scaremester" outfit.

Catty Noir

Catty Noir (voiced by Missi Hale) is the daughter of a female and male Werecat. She is a black werecat, based on superstition of black cats, as she wears 13-styled jewelry and broken glass in her dress to prevent bad luck. She eats thirteen number of fast food every concert to prevent bad luck, and her favorite food are chili fries. Catty does not want bad luck to happen, but she is a rush to cause it, such as ruckuses with fans, and so on. She is sixteen years old, and the daughter of a werecat (unlabeled if this parent male or female).

Casta Fierce

Casta Fierce (voiced by Kate Higgins as a teenager, Francesca Capaldi as a child) is the daughter of the witch Circe. Her name is a pun on Beyoncé's alter-ego "Sasha Fierce". She is another pop-star whose friends are fellow pop-star Catty Noir, and Operetta. She is nineteen and therefore no longer a student at Monster High (if she ever was). She was revealed to have her very own band known as "Casta and the Spells" revealed in the episode "Casta Vote". She is also very popular at the school Monster High.

Clawdia Wolf

Clawdia Wolf (voiced by Jonquil Goode) is a werewolf who is the eldest named wolf sibling (It's implied there are several older siblings but they've not yet been given canon names). She formerly attended Monster High. She is an aspiring screamwriter studying in Londoom. Her family is very important to her, and she misses them while she is away at school. Unlike many of her Wolf siblings, she does not have any athletic ability and is actually quite clumsy. She wears glasses and has mustard-yellow hair, perhaps characterized as a blonde. She is the first Monster High doll to utilise an open mouthed sculpt, Clawdia dolls have a wide smiling mouth with moulded teeth.

Elissabat

Elissabat (voiced by Karen Strassman) is a famous movie-star vampire known in "Frights, Camera, Action" as Veronica Von Vamp. She was a childhood friend of Draculaura's and is the rightful Vampire Queen. She was supposed to become the next Vampire Queen, but found out that the vampire who chose her named Lord Stoker was planning to run the kingdom through her. So with the help of Robecca's father Hexiciah, she escapes to Hauntlywood (Not without going to Londoom and New Gorleans first!) and becomes her alter-ego as Veronica von Vamp, a now famous actress. Her secret is eventually revealed by Draculaura and she becomes queen after forcefully retiring Lord Stoker from his position. At the coronation/movie debut, she helped to unlock Draculaura's vampire powers with the help of the Vampire Dignitaries.

Gigi Grant

Gigi Grant (voiced by Jonquil Goode) is the daughter of the Genie and is the genie of the lantern in 13 Wishes. Gigi lives in a magical lamp (or lantern) which was bound by strict rules and speaks in a high, girly voice. Her origins place her at Ever After High some time before Howleen found her in "Monster High: 13 Wishes". After the events of "13 Wishes," Gigi is freed from her lamp and her shadow Wisp takes her place as granter of wishes. Gigi is now just a regular student at Monster High, though may still possess her genie powers. Gigi has pink skin and a scorpion scale patterning across her body. She has a scorpion tattooed on her chest. Her hair is pink with gold streaks.

Gilda Goldstag

Gilda Goldstag is a humanoid version of the Ceryneian Hind who made unnamed background appearances until she was named in 2014. She made her doll debut in the "student disembodied council" 5 pack. She has short pink hair, large horns, and gold skin.

Honey Swamp

Honey Swamp (voiced by Laura Bailey) is the daughter of the Honey Island Swamp Monster from New Goreleans, Louisiana. She aspires to be a cinematographer.

In "Frights, Camera, Action," Honey Swamp first meets the Monster High students on the Bijou on the Bayou. When Ygor hijacks the Bijou on the Bayou, she calls the help of some alligators to help them get to shore. When joining the students on the trip to Hauntleywood, Honey Swamp helps out Sofeara Gorepola with the underwater shots. Elissabat later hires her to be her camera operator for the new Vampire Majesty movie.

Howleen Wolf

Howleen Wolf (voiced by America Young in most appearances, Lara Jill Miller in some webisodes) is a werewolf and Clawd, Clawdia and Clawdeen's younger sister. She is fourteen years old. Howleen considers her sense of style as "werepunk," but Clawdeen characterizes Howleen's style as "she got dressed 'in the dark'". She shares a room with Clawdeen and is constantly borrowing Clawdeen's clothes without asking. Howleen displays puppy behavior such as chewing on Clawdeen's shoes and even wipes her nose on her sister's jackets. Howleen becomes friends with Abbey after Abbey comes to her defense when she is being bullied by Manny. In her original appearance, Howleen had orange hair with yellow streaks, but every doll since has had pink hair. Howleen's diary and bio state she likes to change her hair colour and style just like her sister Clawdeen. She was the first doll to utilize the "little sister" body sculpt which is shorter and younger looking than the regular body, same as Draculaura, whom is also short.

Iris Clops

Iris Clops (voiced by Kate Higgins in "Fear the Book," Paula Rhodes by Volume 4 and the Volume-5 movie, Haunted) is the daughter of the Cyclops. She has a relationship with Manny Taur in volume 4. She has green, darker green freckles, dull olive green hair in two twisted pigtails, and a giant, deep-olive-green eye that matches her hair. Iris is a sweet, friendly girl who suffers from severe clumsiness, due to her lack of depth perception from having only one eye. Despite her regular trips, spills and injuries, she tries not to let it get her down. Her name is a pun on the word "cyclops" as she is one, and the "iris" is part of the eye.

Jane Boolittle

Jane Boolittle (voiced by Stephanie Sheh) is an unspecified monster girl from an unspecified jungle. She is the adoptive daughter of the mad scientist Doctor Boolittle (based on Doctor Dolittle) who found her in the sole company of her pet sloth Needles during an expedition with Dr. Moreau. Jane isn't used to other teenage monsters due to having been homeschooled most of her life. She can talk to animals and is shown in the webisodes to have befriended the pets of the Monster High students.

Jinafire Long

Jinafire Long (voiced by Stephanie Sheh) is the daughter of two Chinese dragons. Like most dragons, she has the ability to breathe fire and has golden scales. Although kind and helpful, she has a bit of a temper, and says: "Problems are not always solved by demonstrations of strength." She also has seven brothers with no female siblings. She also was shown in the movie "Scaris: City of Frights" as she, Skeltia, and Clawdeen were in a contest. Jinafire also loves to make friends, and Jinafire has a very kind soul. She has a bad temper which can make her burst things into flames. But ever since she melted her first iCoffin, she's tried to be better about it. She also speaks with a sophisticated Chinese accent.

Kiyomi Haunterly

Kiyomi Haunterly (voiced by Joy Lerner) is a character in Monster High who debuts in the TV Special "Haunted". Kiyomi is the purple-haired daughter of the Noppera-bō (a faceless Yōkai, yōkai meaning Japanese monster). Although Kiyomi has no face, but is able to project a likeness of eyes and a nose to appear more human, and she also has lips and a mouth.

Lorna McNessie

Lorna McNessie is a character in Monster High who is set to be released at the end of 2014. She is the daughter of the Loch Ness Monster and is an exchange student from Rotland. She transferred to Monster High after "Monster Exchange."

Madison Fear

Madison Fear is a siren based on Madison Beer.

Marisol Coxi

Marisol Coxi is a character in the Monster High franchise who was set to be released at the end of 2014. She is the daughter of the South American Bigfoot, who is a maricoxi. Marisol is an exchange student from Monster Picchu. She is Abbey Bominable's cousin whom she is really close to. She is described as a really loud ghoul since she does not like how Normies and other Monsters describe them as a silent and Peaceful Monster. She is transferred to Monster High after Monster Exchange, and on the video on Ghoulia's laptop in the webisode, she refers to herself as "Mari", but this is her nickname in other places as well.

Nefera de Nile

Nefera de Nile (voiced by Wendee Lee) is a mummy and the eldest daughter of Ramses de Nile. She is Cleo's older sister by three years. She is cold-hearted, self-centered, and contemptuous towards most other monsters. She enjoys making life miserable for Cleo and takes pleasure in humiliating her younger sister at every turn.

Nefera is first mentioned in Clawd's diary and her first webisode mention is in "Miss Infearmation". Her first webisode appearance is in "Hyde and Shriek". Nefera was the fearleading squad captain until she graduated from Monster High, but in spite of this, Nefera continues to manipulate the squad's activities, solely to make life difficult for Cleo. She had Toralei, Purrsephone, and Meowlody reinstated to the squad after they quit, and demands that Cleo keep them on. For some time after graduation, Nefera worked as a model, which only served to further heighten Cleo's feelings of inferiority towards her. Nefera's diary reveals that she actually suffers from an inferiority complex so severe that if she feels that someone is insulting her in the slightest, she breaks down and suffers a blackout. Her pet is a Scarab beetle named Azura.

Despite her nasty nature, Nefera has had her moments of kindness, some of them being in the webisode "Kind: The Shockumentary," where Cleo tells Nefera she is a great older sister. Nefera smiles sincerely and kindly lets the Kind Campaign leaders though the doors.

Operetta

Operetta (voiced by Gigi Sarroino in volume two, Cindy Robinson in volume three and five) is the sixteen-year-old daughter of the Phantom of the Opera. Her name is a pun and based on "operetta", a shorter, lighter form of opera. In the English-language version of the series, she speaks with a tight southern drawl. Her family moved to Monster High as part of a job to fix an old opera theater that is within the school's catacombs. Her diary is unique in that it is written as a letter to her guitar teacher and friend, Fynn (monster type unknown). Operetta has red hair, wears 1950's rockabilly-styled clothing and a music note mask over her right-hand eye. She has musical annotation and swirls etched down that side of her face and down one arm. She is a talented musician like her father, but her voice is only safe to listen to on a recording. She has a recording studio underneath the catacombs. Operetta was first mentioned in Holt's diary where the two go on a date. Operetta is mentioned again when Spectra spreads a rumor that Deuce is cheating on Cleo with Operetta; in reality, Operetta was merely assisting Deuce with writing a song for Cleo. Operetta's first appearance was in "Hiss-teria". She is BFF's with Deuce Gorgon and Jackson Jekyll's Holt Hyde form. Despite phantom only released to be a type of ghost in "Monster High: Haunted", though the word "Phantom" was always a synonym for ghost, she is a breed of ghost.

In Monster High: Haunted, Operetta is among the ghost students that are abducted from Monster High by Principal Revenant.

Purrsephone and Meowlody

Purrsephone and Meowlody (both vocal effects provided by America Young in 2010-2015, Cindy Robinson in 2016) are twin werecats. Both have dark gray fur, though Purrphone's hair is predominantly black with a single white streak with black highlights on it, and Meowlody's hair is predominantly white with a single white strand with black streaks on it. Though they do not dress exactly alike, their clothes are stylistically similar. The pair have a "mirror" theme running through their design with Meowlody having stripes on her right side, and Purrsephone's stripes on her left. Their dolls have tails that are curved in such a way to form a heart shape when the girls are placed side by side. Their cartoon forms do not have tails at all, but might be tucked in under their skirts taped under. They used to have a pet canary, but one of them turned out to be allergic and they had to give the bird away. The twins are annoyed by the assumption that, because they are twins, they think alike. Purrsephone seems to be the "nicer" twin, the meeker quieter one to Meowlody's stronger will. The werecat twins are best friends with Toralei Stripe. Purrsephone and Meowldoy are seen as Toralei's clique but as seen in scare borne infection they actually stick up for Frankie and briefly ditch Toralei. They don't always agree with Toralei's actions, again evidenced in the Night in Scare-adice web event where they question her sabotage. There is a webisode where Toralei and Spectra claim Toralei and the twins met at the pound, but the twins' diary would contradict that. The end of that webisode implies it's another one of Spectra's "invented backstories" that Toralei approved to spread. The twins have never yet actually spoken, though they do sometimes meow and hiss.

River Styxx

River Styxx (voiced by Ashley Peterson) is the daughter of the Grim Reaper (also known as "Death") and the niece of Charon. She dresses in a "pastel goth" fashion. River has purple skin which is transparent on her lower limbs so that her bones are visible. Her hair is blue, pink and purple. River considers herself a "Reaper in Training" where she is only allowed to carry a staff instead of a scythe. She loves to make people laugh and smile, and is always telling stories, planning parties and fun events for others, particularly the spirits she and her father transport to the Ghost World. The diary of River Styxx mentions that her father has a cousin in the form of a former Reaper who broke the rules and was banished to the living world where he now works as a high school guidance counselor.

Robecca Steam

Robecca Steam (voiced by Julie Maddalena Kliewer) is a robot who is the 116-year-old daughter of Hexaciah Steam. Her heart is actually "the vampire's heart" that was taken by Elissabat and given to Hexaciah to hide so that no one would know that Elissabat was the queen of the vampires (for fear she would be controlled by her uncle Lord Stoker) as seen in "Frights, Camera, Action". Her skin is copper (or rather, her metal is copper) and she is a famous roller-maze champion. She was broken to pieces during a match many years ago and reassembled by Ghoulia Yelps during "Friday Night Frights". She tends to follow her instincts, and is very sweet. She can do a lot of tricks and perform monstrous stunts using her rocket boots. She is friends with Venus McFlytrap and Rochelle Goyle and one of the main characters in the book series "Ghoulfriends Forever".

Rochelle Goyle

Rochelle Goyle (voiced by Erin Fitzgerald) is the daughter of a Gargoyle (probably referring to her father) and is 415 years old. Rochelle is from Scaris, France and an old transfer student at Monster High. Rochelle is very protective of her friends, but this can tend to get in the way of friends who don't desire her protection. Purrsephone and Meowlody once encountered a French gargoyle who ruined a prank they were trying to play on Ghoulia. Rochelle has an unrequited crush on Deuce Gorgon and he can look at her without his sunglasses on as gorgons' and basilisks' stares do not affect gargoyles. Rochelle knows about Deuce's girlfriend, Cleo, but still has a crush on him. In the movie she is shown to have had a love interest in Scaris that was left behind but goes back to find him. Rochelle loves to sculpt and is fond of architecture. Her pet is a gargoyle griffin named Roux. She was revealed at the NYC Toy Fair and released in May.

Scarah Screams

Scarah Screams (voiced by Erin Fitzgerald in Volumes 1–4, Paula Rhodes in half of volume 4, and voiced by Paula Rhodes in Volume 5 and 6) is the daughter of the Banshee. Being a banshee, she is quite feared, as other monsters believe anything a banshee says is a bad omen. Hoodoo had helped her get over her shyness, and not be afraid to make friends or speak to others. Scarah has her second speaking role in "I Scream, You Scream" where she helps Cleo and in this episode she is shown to be telepathic. She mainly communicates using telepathy. Scarah has white eyes with no irises or pupils, blue-green skin, and jet black hair styled in a bouffant flip. Her fashion style is heavily inspired by 1960s mod fashion. She was one of three characters (the other two being the Headless Headmistress Bloodgood and Wydowna Spider) in the running to be the next new Monster High character to debut as a doll. Mattel conducted a ballot poll at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con International, their official Facebook page, and the official Monster High website to determine which character would receive the honor. On August 11, 2011, the official Monster High Facebook page announced that Scarah received the most votes in the poll. The Scarah Screams prototype doll was unveiled at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con International, and the official doll was released at San Diego Comic-Con 2012. Her first doll available to stores was released exclusively to Toys "R" Us, as part of the "I Heart Fashion" line. Her best friends are Hoodoo Voodoo and her boyfriend, Invisi Billy. Her name is based on the word "scare" combined with the name "Sarah".

Sirena Von Boo

Sirena Von Boo (voiced by Paula Rhodes) is one of the new "hybrid" students of Monster High. She is a daughter of a mermaid (mother) and a ghost (father). She has purple hair, white pearlescent skin, and a black mermaid tail. She mysteriously has black parts of her body. Sirena is sometimes described as an "air fin" (airhead) because she loves to daydream and follow her imagination. She has a go with the flow attitude, and doesn't like to be pinned down. Sirena loves hunting for treasure in the sea and frequenting antique shops on land. This curiosity about the unknown has translated into a love of archaeology; she is highly interested in the world around her. She is carefree and likes to go her own way, though she will have concern about her friends and protect them as seen in "Freaky Fusion".

Skelita Calaveras

Skelita Calaveras (voiced by Laura Bailey) is a 15-year-old Calaca from Hexico, and daughter of the Eskelitos or Hexican skeletons (based on Mexican skeletons, or Mexican Calacas). She told the heritage of her necklace that she wears in her basic (Scaris: City of Frights outfit) in "Scare-itage". Skelita is very close with her family, and tries to help them each way she can. Her best friends forever are Jinafire Long and Clawdeen Wolf.

Spectra Vondergeist

Spectra Vondergeist (voiced by Erin Fitzgerald) is the daughter of a ghost couple. Her real age is 16 in monster years, same as Ghoulia. Spectra can float through walls and floors. She posts the "Ghostly Gossip" blog, which often gets entirely the wrong impression from things she overhears and sees. She's prone to jumping to conclusions. In her diary it's hinted that she's constructed a mysterious, fanciful history for herself, and even began to believe it herself, but that the truth about her family is actually quite tragic (though it's never revealed). This may be why she's still a ghost; she hasn't "moved on" from whatever happened to them in life.

Her name was originally trademarked as "Spectra Von Hauntington".

Spectra has a pet ferret named Rhuen.

Toralei Stripe

Toralei Stripe (voiced by America Young) is 15 years old, but on her first nine lives, and the daughter of a werecat. She is an orange werecat with black stripes who was introduced in the webisode "Scream Building," along with Purrsephone and Meowlody. Toralei, who hates to be rubbed the wrong way, is extremely catty and justifies her attitude by stating that it is her desire to see cause-and-effect. She was a fearleader until she and the rest of the fearleaders, except Frankie, grew tired of Cleo's perfectionism and quit. She later tries to rejoin, but is rejected. Cleo's most recent diary reveals that Toralei, Purrsephone, and Meowlody are on the squad because of the influence of her older sister Nefera who apparently keeps in touch with the trio after having graduated.

Toralei's diary reveals why she harbors ill will towards Cleo; Toralei had helped Cleo practice her gymnastics skills to help her make the fearleading squad, which Cleo never thanked her for. To add insult to injury, Nefera named Cleo the new captain of the fearleading team over Toralei, who was expecting to be chosen. Despite her extreme dislike of Cleo, Toralei refuses to resort to using dirty tricks to ensure that her squad beats Cleo's in competition.

Toralei's doll has a tail, unlike her depiction in the webisodes and CGI animation (either that or it is just hidden under her clothes on purpose).

Her pet is a baby saber-toothed tiger cub named Sweet Fang.

Twyla

Twyla (voiced by Jonquil Goode) is a bogeyman, and daughter of the "Boogey Man" or "Boogie Man", and she speaks in a low husky voice. Twyla's species in the franchise is known as a "boogey monster", because the "man" part of "Boogeyman" is a meaning to the opposite of woman, instead of being pronounced as "min". Twyla is a female boogeyman. She has purple skin, violet eyes and mint green hair with purple highlights. She has smoke-like, greyish, dark patterns resembling shadows that are her birthmarks running up her lower arms, wrists, ankles and feet. She is very shy, and prefers her own space. She claims to be comfortable in the shadows and prefers to stay out of the spotlight.

She is friends with Howleen Wolf and Spectra Vondergeist, and part of the disappearing club with Invisi Billy and Catty Noir.

Vandala Doubloons

Vandala Doublouns (voiced by Haviland Stillwell) is an upcoming character in Monster High who debuts in the TV special "Haunted". She is the daughter of a pirate ghost and has a peg-leg. Vandala owns her own pirate ship called the Salty Spectre, which is complete with a "skeleton crew" consisting of actual skeletons. She loves to take the ship out to sea and explore. Her only problem is that she gets seasick very easily which is something she feels is not conducive to being a pirate captain.

She is transferred to Monster High after "Haunted."

Vandala owns a pet cuttlefish ghost named Aye who wears an eyepatch and constantly says "Ay ay".

Venus McFlytrap

She has bright reddish-orangeish eyes, and wears New-York-City-inspired clothing. She visits Boo York City where she meets the Ghouls in "Boo York, Boo York: A Monstrific Musical". Her favorite food is Red Velvet with scream cheese frosting. Luna, being a moth monster, is always attracted to bright lights.

Elle Eedee

Mansters

The following male characters in Monster High are referred to as Mansters:

Clawd Wolf

Clawd Wolf (voiced by Yuri Lowenthal in "Fur Will Fly," Ogie Banks in later appearances, Marcus Griffin in "13 Wishes" and "Frights, Camera, Action") is the son of a werewolf who is also the seventeen-year-old brother of Clawdeen, Howleen, and Clawdia. According to "Bat Dialing Disaster", he has already had his birthday, which must officially make him eighteen years old. He is the oldest child still living in his parents' house. He dated Cleo prior to Frankie attending Monster High in the dolls' diaries when he was struck by one of C.A. Cupid's arrows. Eventually, the magic wore off and he broke up with Cleo who began dating Deuce the next day. Clawd is the Big Monster on Campus and plays on the casketball team with Deuce. He owns a pet gargoyle bulldog named Rockseena. He is also overprotective of his sisters Clawdeen and Howleen according to "Fright On!". Despite being long-time friends since younger youth, he finally falls for Draculaura in Volume 2, and she did the same thing for him, but first. Clawd has dark brown fur and bright yellow eyes.

Deuce Gorgon

Deuce Gorgon (voiced by Yuri Lowenthal in Volumes 1 and 2, Cam Clarke in Volume 3, Evan Smith for the rest of Volume 3, Volume 4, and 5) is the son of the gorgon Medusa. Like his mother, he has snakes for hair, which he styles in a "snake-hawk". He is 16 years old and hopes to get his driver's license soon. He is a member of the casketball team. He also loves to cook and is quite a skilled chef, but he is too self-conscious to showcase his culinary ability to anyone. Deuce inherited his mother's ability to turn people into stone, though he has been able to control the effect so that it lasts for only about twenty-four hours. His petrifying stare does not work on gargoyles which he learns by bumping into Rochelle Goyle. He takes off his sunglasses only when he talks to her. In "Hiss-teria", he reveals that he accidentally petrified his first pet (a dragon named Smokey) when he was a young boy and the effect has lingered to the present day. Deuce is dating Cleo, who seems to always find new ways for him to spend all his money on her. Despite that, Deuce genuinely loves Cleo and wrote a song to express his feelings for her. His pet is a two-tailed rat which he named Perseus after Perseus who Medusa clashed with in her past. Understandably, Medusa is not amused. His favorite color is neon green, which neon green is the color of his hair and Neon Green eyes. His favorite food is "Greek Fusion" (his own creation). Deuce's first name is clearly, obviously named after part of Medusa's name by Sander, the "dus" part, such as "Meh-DEUCE-uh".

Garrott DuRoque

Garrott DuRoque (voiced by Evan Smith) is a French gargoyle from Scaris, France and son of a Gargoyle who is Rochelle Goyle's boyfriend. He now comes in a doll two-pack with Rochelle. His flowers are his "pets" and he is a perfectionist.

Gillington "Gil" Webber

Gillington "Gil" Webber (voiced by Yuri Lowenthal in Volumes One and Two, Evan Smith in later seasons, the CGI specials and Fright On!) is the son of two freshwater-river monsters and is Lagoona Blue's boyfriend. He was first introduced in the webisode "Blue Lagoona" and has made recurring appearances since. Gil is one of the top members on the swim team alongside Lagoona. When on land, Gil has to wear a water-filled helmet over his head in order to breathe, though "Hatch Me if You Can" and the Gloom Beach arc shows that he can be on land for a short period of time without it. Gil is from freshwater, which is why it is hard for him and Lagoona (who can survive in saltwater) to be together.

Heath Burns

Heath Burns (voiced by Yuri Lowenthal in Volume 1, Cam Clarke in the other volumes) is the teenage son of two Fire Elementals. In the Polish version of Monster High webisodes, his name is Ross Burla and in the French EU he is named Thomas Cramé. Heath was first seen as a background character in "Substitute Creature". In "The Hot Boy", he was shown to be Draculaura's short-lived crush. In "Fear Pressure", he mentions that Jackson is his human cousin, a possible reference to when many fans confused Heath Burns for Holt Hyde. Heath's first mention in the dolls' continuity is in Abbey's diary where he is constantly hitting on her with corny one-liners. Heath primarily serves as the comedy relief, being the butt of many physical jokes and the class clown. He and Abbey are now dating. He thinks she's "hot" and she likes that he "makes her laugh". He often calls Abbey "baby" which she corrects him over constantly, telling him her name is Abbey not Baby. In the first novel, Heath appears to be a normie (human). In Book 2, "The Ghoul Next Door", this Heath is revealed to be a RAD (monster) when he sneezes fire. He explains that his ability appeared when he turned fifteen. Starting out as gassy outbursts, Heath's ability is still dangerous. Heath has yellow skin, red eyes and orange hair that bursts into flame when he's excited. He's shown as being close friends with Manny Taur, the two are often seen hanging out together.

Invisi Billy

Invisi Billy (voiced by Evan Smith) is the son of the Invisible Man. Invisi Billy can be seen as a bit of a prankster, but he can be kind and sweet, as in helping Rochelle Goyle with her dance in "Fright Dance". He loves drama, particularly special effects which are his forte. His girlfriend is Scarah Screams (who is also his BFF) as they got together in the webisode "Scarah-Voyant" thanks to Frankie. Catty Noir is also Invisi Billy's BFF. Invisi Billy first appeared as an April Fool's joke on Facebook, picturing an empty box with the blurb "How do you know I'm not in the box?" Since then, his character and design have been refined and changed. His doll has very pale blue/grey skin that fades to transparent blue are his feet. He has dark blue hair and grey eyes. His ears are both gauged, making him the first Monster High boy to have both ears pierced.

Jackson Jekyll / Holt Hyde

Jackson Jekyll (voiced by Cindy Robinson) is a normie boy at Monster High, and enjoys sports (particularly casketball) and video games. Jackson is the son of "Dr. Jekyll", though it's unclear if this is his father, though in the books, Dr. Jekyll is his mother, Sydney Jekyll. His diary implies the original Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were his grandfather and his mother seems to possess the ability to shift. In the web series, Jackson is related to Heath Burns (they are cousins) but through which parent hasn't been clearly explained. Jackson is depicted as a major nerd in the webisodes and specials, though he seems to possess a wicked sense of humour ("Oh I fit in... my locker, trash cans... you'd be surprised what those guys fit me into"). He is first mentioned in Draculaura's diary where he unsettles her father by telling him he needs to "drive a stake into something". Jackson has black hair with blond or yellow streaks. His eyes are blue. He wears glasses, has one eyebrow pierced and has a Yin Yang symbol tattooed between his shoulder-blades.

Holt Hyde (also voiced by Cindy Robinson) is the alter-ego version of Jackson Jekyll and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hyde, who Jackson turns into when loud music plays (when he sweats in the Lisi Harrison novels). Originally in the diaries, it was the sun setting that triggered Jackson's transformation into his alter ego. His diary explains that the trigger is likely to change several times as he ages before finally settling. Holt on the other hand seems to be more fire elemental than normie. His skin is bright blue, his eyes are red and he has fiery-colored hair. He's depicted in the webisodes and specials as rather excitable and loud. He loves to DJ and is friends with Operetta. They tried to date once, but Holt's hot temper spoiled things. In the prom website event called "A Night in Scare-adise" on Monsterhigh.com he and Operetta attended prom together. Operetta was quoted as saying he "rocks my l'il ol' face off." Holt is often shown as a DJ at school dance events. He annotated Jackson's diary with sarcastic remarks. Like Jackson, Holt has a Yin Yang tattoo on his back and a pierced eyebrow. (His Swim Class doll is missing this detail however). In the books, his name is DJ Hyde.

Jackson and Holt share a pet Chameleon named Crossfade.

Neighthan Rot

Neighthan Rot (voiced by Josey Montana McCoy) is one of the new "hybrid" students of Monster High where his first name is pronounced "Nathan". He is the son of a zombie (father) and a unicorn (mother). He has long black hair with blue, yellow, and red highlights in a ponytail, and he wears a colorful shirt and pants whose color splash patterns seem remincient of anatomical models. Neighthan is somewhat clumsy, but he is a social monster who loves hanging out with his beast friends. He doesn't like monsters judging other monsters based on their appearances. He has the ability to heal thanks to his unicorn horn. He makes his first webisode appearance in "Graveyard Grates". He looks a little less like a unicorn because he only has a tail, a horn, a tail, and rainbow hair, with the zombie side, he has grey zombie-skin, and a marking on the left side of his face around his eye, and legs and feet instead of horse-like legs and hooves. He has a blue unicorn-horn, and wears a ponytail with a strand of hair coming down the left side of his face. He also wears a T-shirt with a rib cage on it and difficult multi-colors. He has romantic feelings for Frankie Stein, which seems to be mutual.

Porter "Paintergeist" Geiss

Porter Geiss (nicknamed Paintergeist) (voiced by Todd Haberkorn) is a character in Monster High who debuts in the TV special "Haunted". He is the son of the Poltergeist and is an expert artist where he often gets in trouble with Haunted High's Hall Moanitors. Porter falls in love with Spectra Vondergeist in "Haunted," but decides to continue attending Haunted High instead.

Sloman "Slo-Mo" Mortovitch

Sloman "Slo-Mo" Mortovitch (vocal effects provided by Audu Paden) is a zombie who was originally addressed as Moe "Slow Moe" Deadovitch instead throughout the series, before any dolls were released and before it was officially addressed on Monster High's website in the description of "Flowers for Slo Moe". He is Ghoulia's official boyfriend.

Kieran Valentine

Kieran Valentine is an extremely powerful vampire, altering and possessing the ability to break hearts. He was Draculaura's first romance, and speaks with a Transylvania accent in a very attractive-sounding voice. He has pale skin, violet-pink eyes and shaggy, messy, short black hair with some red streaks or highlights. Valentine befriended Whisp, the shadow genie of the genie, Gigi Grant once. He dresses in a fashion very traditional to vampires, and wears x-ray glasses to see how full a heart is. He also wears occasional reading glasses. It is unknown, however, if "Kieran" is his true first name. Valentine's name is literally where the name "Valentine" in "Valentine's Day" came from.

Mr. Zarr's full name is a source of mirth for the students because it sounds very much like "loser," which is what they perceive him to be. He is turned to stone when he demands that Deuce Gorgon take off his sunglasses and Deuce complies. Of course Deuce stays behind to tell Lou Zarr the effects of his stare once it wears off.

Lou Zarr later hosts Trigular Calcometry 101, Frankie Stein's very first class. It makes her worry she won't survive school. In fact, Zarr's lesson is so boring he makes himself fall asleep mid-calculation. When a little later the school bell rings, the students leave swiftly, except for Ghoulia Yelps. When they arrived at Monster High to rate the results, they were greeted by the famed monster expert Van Hellscream and Headless Headmistress Bloodgood (who was actually a disguised Crabgrass). Van Hellscream didn't want a unified monster society out of fear it would bring death to the human race, so he and Crabgrass had been stoking the lingering hatred between the werewolves and vampires. Van Hellscream made a show of trying to look like he had Monster High's best interest at heart, unaware the real Bloodgood and several students had already revealed the setup to the vampires and werewolves and arranged for the Skullastic Superintendents to find no strife among the student body. Indeed, when the Skullastic Superintendents were led to the student body, all they saw was werewolves, vampires an,d other monsters enjoying each other's company and having a blast of a party. Noting that the results were better than they could've hoped, the Skullastic Superintendents left.

Van Hellscream

Van Hellscream (voiced by Cam Clarke) is a human who was the school administrator and is the main antagonist in Monster High: Fright On!. Introduced in the book series

The following characters are exclusive to the book adaptions of this franchise:

Melody Carver

Melody Carver is the co-protagonist of the Monster High novels by Lisi Harrison. She and her family are from Beverly Hills and moved to Salem, Oregon to help with Melody's asthma.[2] Melody has just recovered from rhinoplasty that was meant to help her with her breathing, but is implied to have been mostly to please her parents' family image. Melody's family is neighbors with Jackson Jekyll, whom Melody eventually dates. Melody is the one who reveals the truth behind Jackson's blackouts through a recording on her iPhone. Unfortunately, she forgets to delete it and it gets in the hands of Bekka Madden, a RAD hater and primary antagonist of the series. This video leads to the RADs community becoming exposed, Melody forming the NUDIs (Normies Uncool with Discriminating Idiots), and a documentary on their secret lives. At the end of the second novel, Melody learns from Manu, Cleo's father's aide, that she might be the daughter of Marina, a siren. This is confirmed at the end of the third novel. Melody develops the ability to persuade people to do whatever she asks with her voice. She also grows olive and blue feathers with gold tips. This inspires her to make a dress and jewelry out of them.

Billy Phaidin

Billy Phaidin is the son of the Invisible Man. Billy is the RAD who made Salem aware of the monster community after a 60 year hiatus of a RAD sighting. It is implied that his invisibility developed later in his life, similar to Heath's fire breathing. Billy, much like his predecessor, can only be seen if he wears clothing and make-up. Billy dresses up as Frankie to appease Bekka's demands to get Jackson's transformation video back. It fools Bekka, but fails to solve the problem thanks to Brett's poor timing. In "Where There's a Wolf, There's a Way," Candace helps Billy become visible with a spray-tan. Billy has a one-sided crush on Frankie.

Cy Clops

Cy Clops is a cyclops who is a student at Monster High and is exclusive to the book series.

Henry Hunchback

Henry Hunchback is a boy with a severe hunchback who is exclusive to the book series Ghoulfriends and might be the son of Igor or Quasimodo.

Brett Redding

Brett Redding is a normie who attends Merston High. At the beginning of the series, he is dating Bekka Madden. In the first novel, he is hunting monsters after the sighting of a "green alien," who turns out to be Frankie. It is revealed later that he is fascinated by monsters. Brett kisses Frankie at the Monster Mash and accidentally detaches her head, sending shockwaves throughout his body. He ends up in a coma until the beginning of the second novel. When Brett wakes up, during live TV, he breaks up with Bekka and wants to find the mystery girl from the dance. Brett joins the NUDIs with Melody, and the two decide to make a documentary to show normies that RADs are just regular people as well. Brett is also dating Frankie and friends with Heath before anyone knew he was a RAD (Regular Attribute Dodger/monster).

Bekka Madden

Bekka Madden is the primary antagonist of the Monster High novels. She befriends Melody at first due to a common dislike of Cleo de Nile. Bekka wants Brett all to herself, even forcing Melody to sign a contract that she won't make any moves on Brett. Bekka discovers the video of Jackson transforming into DJ Hyde and uses this as blackmail for Melody to get Frankie, the girl who kissed Brett and put him in a coma. Within the allotted time frame, Melody brings a disguised Billy to Brett's hospital room. Bekka is fooled and pleased with the turning in of the RAD, but exposes the video on live TV anyway when Brett breaks up with her. Bekka ends up sabotaging the NUDIs documentary by turning it into fear propaganda rather than a film to help the RADs break out into society. Afterward in the third novel she organizes anti-RAD protests and does "haunted" tours of the houses that the RADS used to live in. At the beginning of book 4 it is shown that Becca had transferred to a new school, after which; little is said about her.

Candace Carver

Candace Carver is Melody's older sister. On the surface, she appears to be nothing more than a party girl and the stereotypical Beverly Hills teenager. However, Melody, in the second book remarks that Candace "defied the dumb-blond stereotype. There was no air in that head. The spinning wheels in her brain blew it all out her ears." Candace is very supportive of Melody and is happy to help her sister when she can. She, in fact, was the one to name NUDI and is a proud member, serving as the group's unofficial chauffeur without complaint. Candace was unaware that Melody is adopted until "Where There's a Wolf, There's a Way."

Sydney Jekyll

Sydney Jekyll is Jackson Jekyll's mother from the novels and currently is unmentioned in the other media. She had never told Jackson about DJ until Melody Carver reveals the truth to him via her iPhone. Sydney used to teach at Merston High until the RADs were outed in the community and she was fired from her job. She moved to another town and kept DJ as the main personality to protect Jackson. While away, Sydney rents her house to Marina, not knowing she is Melody's birth mother. At the end of the third novel, she is back in Salem, Oregon. In the fourth book, her name is revealed.

Superintendent Petra Fied

Superintendent Petra Fied is a mummy and the Skullastic Superintendent in charge of the local district. She appears in the Ghoulfriends Forever book where she keeps an eye on things at the time when Headmistress Bloodgood is kidnapped.
