Chari-Baguirmi by-election, 1958

A by-election was held in Chari-Baguirmi on 1 June 1958.[1] The seven-member seat had been won by the Entente in the Territorial Assembly elections held on 31 March 1957, but the results were annulled, and the seat was subsequently won by the Chadian Socialist Union.[1]

Background

The 1957 Territorial Assembly elections had seen the Entente win 42% of the vote in Chari-Baguirmi, winning all seven seats. The African Socialist Movement finished second with 39.8% but did not win a seat.
