Charitha Herath is a Sri Lankan academic. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Peradeniya. He is the former Secretary of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information in Sri Lanka and former Chairman of the Central Environment Authority. [1][2][3]

Charitha Herath holds a bachelor's degree in Philosophy with a minor in Psychology from the University of Peradeniya and a Post Graduate Degree in Social and Political Psychology from Ohio University, USA. In 1998 he completed a Master’s Diploma at the Sichuan Union University in China on Sri Lanka – China Religious Relationships.[4]

Charitha Herath is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Peradeniya.[5]

He served as a Consultant to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information from November 2005 to April 2010. He was responsible for the supervision of the Media Monitoring Project, the exercise in War Reporting, developing on media related issues including a Media Policy and designing a framework for the role of Media in good governance and he served as a committee member in formulation of a regulatory framework for Radio & TV broadcasting in Sri Lanka and formulation of a State Media Policy at the Ministry of Mass Media and Information in 2006.[6][7] Herath was appointed as the Chairman of the Central Environment Authority in May 2010 and served as till 12 July 2012.[8] He served as the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information until January 2015.[9]
