Cheese slaw is a "salad" consisting of grated cheese, grated carrot and a mayonnaise dressing.[1] Its origins can be traced to far north Queensland. It is also found extensively in Broken Hill. The word is a portmanteau of the words cheese and coleslaw. Cheese slaw is very similar to some coleslaw recipes, but is distinguished by the inclusion of cheese.[1] It often doesn't contain cabbage, as per coleslaw. Cheese slaw may contain other vegetables, such as broccoli.
