Chelakkara is a small town in Thrissur district of Kerala.

One of the famous pooram ( Vela ) in Trissur dist - in fact in Kerala. Anthimhakalan kavu located in Chelakkara, Which is famous for fire works and traditional celebrations called Kala kali.

Geography

Chelakara is located at 10°42′N 76°21′E / 10.70°N 76.35°E / 10.70; 76.35.[1] It has an average elevation of 6 m (20 ft).

One of the famous pooram (Vela) in Trissur dist Anthimhakalan kavu located in Chelakkara, which is famous for fire works and traditional clebrations called kala kali. The town has many temples including Narasimhamurthy Temple, and Anthimahakalan Temple. A small Car festival on Thiruvadira day. Navarathri is celebrated on a grand scale. The other festival that is observed in a grand way is Kaliyaroad Nercha and Vaikunta Ekadasi. Some nearby villages are Pangarappilly,Killimangalam,Venganellur, and Thonoorkara.In Chelakkara, there is a place called ' Gramam' wherein Brahmin community was staying in a cluster.

Sree Moolam Thirunal Govt. Higher Secondary School(S.M.T.G.H.S.S) is built in the Kerala traditional architecture practice called 'naalu kettu' with a cave and secret rooms which are not yet opened.

Anthimakaalan Kavu (temple) Vela (festival) is celebrated in a grant manner with festivities and five spectacular fireworks show, which starts around midnight and ends early morning the next day. People from all over Kerala come to see the grand fireworks.

Kolathur Ayyappankavu Sree Subhramanya Swami Kshetram, is a famous Muruga temple that is located in Kolathur village in Chelakkara, and Thypooyamaholsavam is the main festival. The panchavaadyam of Chelakkara Desam from this temple on Anthimahakaalan vela is famous. Kolathur also has a chozhi group associated with the temple, which co-ordinate the Chozhi during Thiruvathira festival.

Venganellur village is a beautiful village. At the centre of this village, there are five temples including the Maha Siva temple, Lord Thiruveembilappa, the presiding deity. The temple has a history of more than 300 years. In the earlier days, the temple and the surroundings were under the control of Tamil Brahmins. In the twentieth century more than 100 Brahmin houses, Madoms, were there in this area. (Dr. C.S. Venkitaraman (1918–1994), an eminent mathematician, who was born in one of these Madoms.) The Tamil Brahmins started the famous festival of Ashtami Maholsavam in the temple. Nowadays, it is the most celebrated festival of Chelakkara.AND sri.mariyamman kovil, Chelakkara's one and the famous amman temple.The famous festival of "MARIYAMMAN POOJA MAHOTHSAV".The other temples are Vadasseri Sri Krishna temple, Edathara Krishna Temple, Erupurath Narasimha Murthy Temple of Velanezhy Mana, Thali Siva Temple, Sreekandapuram Mahavishnu Temple, and Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, Kizhakkumuri.

Chelakkara church festival (Pazhaya Palli Perunnal) is celebrated on December 3 and 4 every year. The church conducting the festival is St. George's Church, Chelakkara. Other churches in Chelakkara are St Mary's Forane Church, St Gregorios Church, and CMS Anglican Church.

St. Mary's Forane Church celebrates the birthday of the first Chaplain of Chelakkara, Rev Fr Antony Thachuparambil every year. Many devotees from neighbouring places and districts visit the church. The Holy remains of the Chaplain, who has since been declared Servant of God by Roman Catholic Church.[2][3] Chelakkara have the roads to Ottapalam, Shornur, Thrissur etc.

A local dam near Venganallur gives adds to the beauty with a wide variety of birds, fauna, and flora.

The Panjal village,which is famous for athirathram and Kerala Kalamandalam are located near Chelakkara.

Chelakkara was one of the location of Tamil movie called Muthu (Rajanikath's filim), Many other movies also shoted at Chelakkara like Devasuram, Ulsavapitteannu, Akashadooth,Balettan,Dr.Pasupathi,Malarvadi Arts club etc...Popular Malayalam actor Mammootty in the movie The Truth asks his counterpart Janardhanan as to where in Talappilly taluk he belongs to, to which he answers as Chelakkara.
