Chen Liping (Chinese: 陈莉萍, born 22 August 1965) is a popular and famous Singaporean actress.

Career

Chen began her acting career in 1985 with the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation after completing the drama training course. During that period she was best known for her role as "Miss Ai-Yo-Yo" (哎哟哟老師) in the Singapore Chinese drama series Good Morning, Sir! (早安老师), which earned her a "Most Unforgettable TV Character" Award in Star Awards 2003. Her character was also voted the most memorable character at MediaCorp Channel 8's 45th anniversary special in 2008 and the top 5 most memorable characters poll at the Star Awards 2007 anniversary special celebrating 25 years of Chinese language drama in Singapore.

In 2003, Chen also took the Best Actress Award for her role in Holland V for her memorable role as the feisty Mo Wanwan. The character was voted one of the top 5 most memorable characters at the Star Awards 2007 25th anniversary special. She was the sixth MediaCorp artiste to be awarded the All-Time Favourites Awards in the annual Star Awards after winning the Top 10 Most Popular Award 10 times since the awards inception in 1994.

She won the Best Actress Award for the second time in Star Awards 2010 for her role as a thrifty housewife in Reunion Dinner.[1]

In 2014, Chen won the Best Actress award once again for her role as Yao Zhu Kang Li, a career woman facing marital issues who has to act happy in the company in The Dream Makers. This victory came as a surprise as co-star Jeanette Aw was seen as a strong contender for the category. Chen's third win is significant as it matches the record set by acclaimed actresses Huang Biren and Ivy Lee, who also have three wins each to their name.

Personal life

Chen studied in Crescent Girls' School from 1978 to 1983. She is married to fellow actor Rayson Tan, and has a son named Xavier (born 2002) now in Secondary 2.

Chen enjoys close relationships with many Mediacorp artistes. But the closest of friends are Zeng Huifen, Zoe Tay, Pan Lingling, Xiang Yun and Rui En.
