Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy is a public charter school serving elementary, middle school, and high school students in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The K-12 school has some of the highest Colorado Student Assessment Program test scores in the state.[2]

History

The school's charter was approved in 1995 by Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 and opened in fall 1995 with 271 students. The school's physical location is outside the district's boundaries in Harrison School District 2 and attracts students from ten area districts.

A high school program, The Vanguard School, was opened three blocks away from the elementary campus in 2006 after approval by the D-12 school district to add a high school to its contract with the district.[3]

Curriculum

Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy uses the Core Knowledge Curriculum, which is designed to help students master basic skills and build on them. Additionally, teachers use the Direct Instruction method to keep students involved throughout the day.[4]
