Chez Piggy
Chez Piggy is a restaurant in downtown Kingston, Ontario. In 2015 it was called Kingston’s best-known restaurant by the National Post. Chez Piggy was opened in 1979 by Zal Yanovsky of the 1960s pop group The Lovin' Spoonful and his partner Rose Richardson who were both avid travelers who enjoyed good food and wanted to create a restaurant reflecting those traits. Chez Piggy which has stone and wood decor, is located in a former horse stable built in 1806 and provides a menu of extensive and ethnically diverse dishes. Pan Chancho started out in 1994 as a small bakery supplying bread to Chez Piggy.
Owners and managers
Chez Piggy is owned by Zoe Yanovsky, who also owns Pan Chancho Bakery. Zoe Yanovsky took over as operating owner of both Chez Piggy and Pan Chancho when her father died in 2002. Chez Piggy has had the same general manager, Nick Waterfield for over 30 years. Waterford has been part of the restaurant since it opened. According to Waterford Kingston did not us to be the tourist destination then as it is now.
Menu of Chez Piggy
Some of Chez Piggy’s dishes include Muscovy duck confit, Vietnamese spring rolls, bone marrow with truffles and scallops with a coconut-lemon grass sauce. Ingredients such as beef, chicken, vegetables and other produce are sourced locally. Local microbrews are available on tap and some of the wine is from Ontario vineyards. [1]
Offerings by Pan Chancho
Pan Chancho has recently developed a gluten-free bread line in order to cater to people with Celiac disease (see also: Wheat Belly). [2]
