Andury Junior Acevedo (born August 23, 1990) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Acevedo signed as an international free agent with the New York Yankees as a shortstop. They converted him into a pitcher in 2012. He became a free agent after the 2015 season.[1] The Cubs signed him to a major league contract, adding him to their 40-man roster to protect him from being eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft.[2]

Corey Black

Corey William Black (born August 4, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Black attended San Diego State University before transferring to Faulkner University. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.[3] He made his professional debut for the Gulf Coast Yankees. He also pitched for the Staten Island Yankees and Charleston RiverDogs that season. Overall, he started 12 games, going 2–2 with a 3.08 earned run average (ERA) and 50 strikeouts in 52 23 innings.

Black started 2013 with the Tampa Yankees.[4] On July 26 he was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Alfonso Soriano.[5][6] He was assigned to the Daytona Cubs. In 24 starts, he went 7–8 with a 3.93 ERA and 116 strikeouts over 107 23 innings. He started the 2014 season with the Tennessee Smokies.

Paul Blackburn (born December 4, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Blackburn was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft out of Heritage High School in Brentwood, California.[7] He made his professional debut that season with the Arizona League Cubs. He played 2013 with the Boise Hawks and 2014 with the Kane County Cougars.[8][9][10]

Jeimer Candelario

Jeimer Candelario (born November 24, 1993) is a Dominican American professional baseball third baseman in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Candelario was born in New York City and moved to the Dominican Republic when he was five so that his father could open a baseball training center.[11] He signed with the Chicago Cubs in September 2010. He made his professional debut the next year with the Dominican Summer League Cubs. Candelario spent 2012 with the Boise Hawks and 2013 with the Kane County Cougars.[12] He spent 2014 with Kane County and the Daytona Cubs. He started 2015 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and was promoted to the Double-A Tennessee Smokies during the season. The Cubs added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[13]

Víctor Caratini

Víctor Manuel Caratini (born August 17, 1993) is a Puerto Rican professional baseball catcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Caratini was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft out of Miami Dade College.[14] He made his professional debut that season with the Danville Braves. After primarily playing third base his first season, Caratini played mostly as a catcher in 2014. He started the season with the Rome Braves. On July 31, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Emilio Bonifacio and James Russell.[15][16][17] The Cubs sent him to the Kane County Cougars, where he finished the season.[18][19] Caratini spent the 2015 season with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

Willson Contreras

Willson Eduardo Contreras (born May 13, 1992) is a Venezuelan professional baseball catcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Contreras signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in 2009. He made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Cubs that year and played with them in 2010. In 2011 and 2012 he played with the Boise Hawks. Contreras spent 2013 with the Kane County Cougars, 2014 with the Daytona Cubs and 2015 with the Tennessee Smokies.[20][21] He was named the Cubs Minor League Player of the Year in 2015 after batting .333/.413/.478 with eight home runs.[22][23] The Cubs added him to their 40-man roster after the season.[13]

Contreras was rated 57th on Baseball Prospectus' top 101 prospect list prior to the 2016 season.

David Freitas

David Freitas (born March 18, 1989) is an American professional baseball catcher for the Chicago Cubs.

Freitas was born in Wilton, California. He attended Elk Grove High School and then Cosumnes River College, where he played college baseball for two years, earning All-American honors. He then transferred to the University of Hawaii, where he continued his college baseball career with the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.[24]

The Washington Nationals selected Freitas in the 15th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. Playing for the Hagerstown Suns of the Class A South Atlantic League in 2011, he started in the all-star game.[25] In 2012, they traded Freitas to the Athletics for Kurt Suzuki.[26]

Freitas was traded to the Baltimore Orioles on December 12, 2013 as the player to be named later in the Jim Johnson trade.[27][28] After the 2015 season, the Cubs selected Freitas in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft.[29]

Freitas grew up a fan of the Athletics.[30]

Eloy Jiménez

Eloy Arturo Solano Jiménez (born November 27, 1996) is a Dominican professional baseball outfielder in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Jiménez was considered the top international free agent for 2013.[31] MLB.com lauded him as a 5-tool player, noting that during workouts he impressed scouts with his intelligence, speed, and gap-to-gap power.[32] He signed with the Chicago Cubs in July 2013 for a $2.8 million signing bonus.[33][34][35][36]

Jiménez made his professional debut in 2014 with the Arizona League Cubs, where he was limited to just 164 plate appearances due to a shoulder injury. When healthy, he reached base at a disappointing .268 clip. Still, scouts remained optimistic due to his young age and physical ability.[37] Jiménez received a promotion to short-season single-A to start 2015 with the Eugene Emeralds.[38] There, Jiménez fared considerably better, improving his on-base percentage to .328, and slugging 7 home runs in 250 plate appearances.

Cubs Director of Player Development Jaron Madison confirmed on January 17, 2016 that Jiménez would begin the 2016 season with low-A South Bend.[39]

Eddy Julio Martínez

Eddy Julio Martinez (born January 18, 1995) is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Martinez was considered a top international free agent for 2015.[40] His signing came under some controversy as it was originally thought he had signed with the San Francisco Giants for a $2.5 million bonus, however other agents working for Martinez had working out a $3 million bonus with the Chicago Cubs.[41] On October 19 Major League Baseball sided with the Cubs and Martinez signed.[41]

Mike O'Neill

Mike O'Neill (born February 12, 1988) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Chicago Cubs organization.

O'Neill attended the University of Southern California. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the 31st round of the 2010 MLB Draft.

O'Neill was named a Texas League All-Star after the 2013 season.[42] The Cardinals added him to their 40-man roster after the 2013 season,[43] and designated him for assignment on July 11, 2014.[44] He was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft on December 10, 2015.[45]

Bijan D. Rademacher (born June 15, 1991) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Rademacher was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 13th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft out of Orange Coast College.[46][47] He signed with the Cubs and made his professional debut that season with the Arizona League Cubs. He also played for the Boise Hawks and Peoria Chiefs that year. Rademacher started 2013 with the Kane County Cougars and was promoted to the Daytona Cubs during the season. He returned to Daytona in 2014.[48] After the season he played in the Arizona Fall League.[49] Rademacher spent all of 2015 with the Tennessee Smokies. There, he put up a .379 OBP, good for 8th in the Southern League.[50]

Jake Stinnett

Jake Douglas Stinnett (born April 25, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Stinnett played college baseball at the University of Maryland from 2011 to 2014. After his junior season he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 29th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.[51] Stinnett did not sign with the Pirates and returned to Maryland for his senior season.[52] On March 31, 2014, he threw a no-hitter against UMass.[53] For his career, Stinnett went 14–11 with a 2.78 earned run average (ERA) with 197 strikeouts.

After his senior season, Stinnett was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft.[54] He signed with the Cubs and made his professional debut with the Arizona League Cubs. He was later promoted to the Boise Hawks where he ended the year. Stinnett spent the 2015 season with the South Bend Cubs, where he put up a 4.46 ERA and 4.20 FIP.

Gleyber Torres

Gleyber David Castro Torres (born December 13, 1996) is a Venezuelan professional baseball shortstop in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Torres signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in 2013.[55] He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Arizona League Cubs. He was later promoted to the Boise Hawks. In 50 games he hit .297/.386/.440 with two home runs. He was promoted to Myrtle Beach for the 2015, and had what was widely considered a breakout season. Torres was rated the 41st best prospect in MLB according to Baseball Prospectus prior to the 2016 season.

Daury DeJesus Torrez (born June 11, 1993) is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization. Torrez signed with the Cubs as an international free agent in 2010 as a 17-year-old for a $25,000 signing bonus.[56]

Torrez spent two years playing for the Cubs Dominican Summer League affiliate before earning a promotion state-side prior to the 2013 season. He posted a 3.31 ERA with the Arizona Rookie League Cubs in 2013 before earning a promotion to the Kane County Cougars, where he pitched five innings. Torrez would spend 2014 and 2015 with Kane County and the High-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans, where he posted a 2.74 and 3.75 ERA, respectively.

Torrez is regarded as a ground ball pitcher whose best pitch is his fastball, which sits between 90-92 mph. He also throws a slider and a changeup. MLB.com ranked him as the 29th best prospect in the Cubs minor league system entering 2016.[57]

Duane Lee Underwood, Jr. (born July 20, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Underwood was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft out of Alan C. Pope High School in Marietta, Georgia.[58][59] He signed with the Cubs and made his professional debut that season with the Arizona League Cubs. He spent 2013 with the Boise Hawks and 2014 with the Kane County Cougars.[60] For 2015, Underwood was promoted to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, where he posted a 2.58 ERA in 73.1 innings.

Villanueva signed with the Texas Rangers as an international free agent on August 17, 2008. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs along with Kyle Hendricks in 2012 in exchange for Ryan Dempster.[61]

Baseball America rated Villanueva the 100th best prospect in baseball prior to the 2012 season.[62] Villanueva is regarded as a glove-first third basemen. Fangraphs' Dan Farnsworth rated Villanueva the Cubs 21st best prospect prior to the 2015 season.

Villanueva broke his right fibula during spring training in 2016.[63]

Ryan Arthur Williams (born November 1, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Williams played college baseball at East Carolina University. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.[64] He made his professional debut that year with the Arizona League Cubs and also pitched for the Boise Hawks. Williams pitched 2015 with the South Bend Cubs and Tennessee Smokies.[65][66] He was named the Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going 14-3 with a 2.16 earned run average (ERA) and 98 strikeouts.[22][23]
