The Chief Minister of Punjab (Urdu: وزیر اعلیٰ پنجاب) is elected by the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab and serves as the head of the provincial government in Punjab, Pakistan. The current Chief Minister is Shehbaz Sharif, who became the Chief Minister of Punjab as being restored after Governor's rule starting from February 25, 2009 to March 30, 2009. Shehbaz Sharif took the office on March 30, 2009. He was elected before as the Chief Minister of Punjab by the Provincial Assembly but later on was removed from the office due to court decisions and Governor Rule was imposed. The new decision of the court on March 30, 2009 restored Shehbaz Sharif. Governor rule was lifted one day before by President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari. Award winning journalist and media personality Najam Sethi was appointed caretaker Chief Minister Punjab on 26 March 2013 after Shehbaz Sharif completed his five years term in office.
