Chillr is a multi-bank mobile banking app that lets users send and receive money to/from anyone in their phone book. Chillr differentiates from online wallets as all fund transactions are between bank accounts. It was listed in the “App Store Best of 2015”[2] on the IOS platform in India. Chillr is the only Financial/Banking app to be listed in this category.
History
Chillr was conceptualized within MobME and spun off as a subsidiary after a year. It is currently being led by Sony Joy, who co-founded MobME Wireless Solutions with two of his college friends back in 2006. Chillr means pocket change in many Indian languages and is something everyone is used to dealing with and making payments with.
Service
Chillr is the fastest and easiest way to send money between bank accounts and works even on bank holidays. It is linked directly to your bank account to offer you following services:
- Pay - Make direct payments to other bank account or through tags.
- Request - Request for money or split bills.
- Utilities - Recharge your mobile phone, data card or DTH.
- Stores - Pay at merchant stores by scanning QR code.
Bank Partnerships
Currently Chillr has tied up with HDFC Bank,[3][4]Bank of Baroda,[5][6]Andhra Bank[7] and Catholic Syrian Bank.[8] Customers of these banks will enjoy seamless money transferring services. However, customers of every bank in India will be able to receive payments via Chillr. They’re looking at partnering with at least 10 more by the end of March.[9]
Funding
Their initial seed funding came from MobME. Post this they raised series A from Sequoia Capital [10][11] This later extended to series A+, which along with investments from Blume Venture [12] and other angel investors totaled a sum of up to 7.2 million dollars.
