Chris Brooks (broadcaster)

Chris Brooks (born 3 October 1971) [1] is a British radio presenter and DJ from Eastbourne, East Sussex, England, Currently presenting for Global Radio as a presenter on Heart Essex.[2]

Early life

Brooks was Born in Eastbourne and lived there until he was 7 years old. He then moved to Watford where he went to School at Langleybury. He then returned to Eastbourne in 1989.

Hospital Radio

Brooks started his Radio career on Eastbourne Hospital Radio in 1989.

Student radio

At the University of Hertfordshire, Brooks, and fellow presenters applied for and won an RSL licence for the campus radio station to be broadcast on FM. He was part of the team that created Crush Radio which is still broadcasting today.

Career

Brooks started his professional career at Chiltern Radio in Milton Keynes in 1993, presenting a networked show across the group's stations.

This was followed by Broadcasting roles on Metro Radio, Galaxy Radio and Kix 96.

It was whilst at Essex FM in 2000 that Brooks met his good friend Scott Robinson from band 5ive and the two of them presented the Hot 30 Countdown show together. This ended when Brooks was signed by Ric Blaxill for Capital FM in 2002,[3] to present their weekend breakfast show and to be the new main weekday cover presenter. Chris and Scott remain good friends and have been seen at various events together since and at one stage were working on TV shows together.[4]

In 2002 A feature on Brooks' Weekend breakfast show led to an investigation being launched into the voting process of popular TV Show Popstars: The Rivals after a feature Brooks was running led to various calls to the show saying that they had voted for Javine but the phone automated message said, Thanks you for your vote for Sarah Harding.[5][6]

In 2003 Emma Forbes was signed to present alongside Brooks on a new sound weekend breakfast show [7] press shots of Brooks and Forbes were taken at Party in the Park 2002 but for an unknown reason this didn't happen.[8]

In 2004 Brooks was given the role as interim breakfast presenter on Capital Radio flagship show Capital Breakfast (London) [9] Brooks remained the cover presenter for Johnny Vaughan until he left Capital in 2009.

In 2005 Brooks was appointed to present the Afternoon show on Capital FM between 1-4 [10]

In 2006 Brooks appeared in chick novel Hollys inbox.[11]

In 2008 Brooks won a Sony Radio Academy Gold Award for his role in Lights out London [12]

In 2009 Brooks left Capital FM to pursue business interests namely a production company based in Southend, Essex.

In 2010 Brooks stayed with Global Radio to present the Drive show in his home county of Sussex on Heart Sussex. He left in 2012.

Brooks still presents shows for Heart Essex and the Heart Network in the Leicester Square studios as a cover presenter.

In November 2015 alongside his friend Scott Robinson and Radio producer Alex Williamson, Brooks launched his first podcast called The Three Show.

Chris Brooks announced via Twitter that he would be leaving Heart and Global Radio at the end of February 2016 to present a new syndicated Dance Show on stations in the UK and abroad. The show is called Ear Candy and will air from April 2016 and will be produced by Ear Candy Radio.


Comedy

In January 2016 Brooks embarked on a new career as a Stand Up Comedian. After enrolling in comedy course in 2015, his first gig was at The Millers in London Bridge, it was well received and he continues to perform on the comedy circuits in the UK.

Poker

Brooks is a keen Poker player and has played in the EPT in London and various televised games.[13][14]

Personal life

He now lives with his wife Karen in Essex with their two children Harry 2005 and Sam 2007. Brooks also has a daughter from a previous relationship, Kirsty was born in 1993. Brooks was married to Karen in 2001 in Kettering. Brooks is a fan of Watford F.C.
