Early Life and Career
Chris Johnson was born November 22, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan. In 1982 Chris married Paula. In 1984-85, while continuing to work at Frito Lay, Chris pursued further education at Michigan State University. One of Chris’s Professors told Chris that he was a “prevention guy” and that he needed to help people get and stay healthy. This gave Chris the inspiration to register in the Exercise Physiology graduate program, leading to his Master’s degree in 1989.[7] In 1986, his twins, Matt and Kristen were born.
Towards the end of graduate school, Chris interned at Butterworth Metropolitan Wellness Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, speaking to companies about high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood testing. He then worked with Barry Saltman opening WellAware Fitness center. He worked with high risk clients, COPD, heart replacement and diabetes. In 1991, Chris was one of the first employees and hires to start a fitness program as fitness director at Sparrow Health System's Michigan Athletic Club (MAC).
At the MAC,[8] he also started seminars called FYI, which started with only 4 people and grew as more people became aware of the message. He then started a speaking topic called “Meal Patterning”, which was about patterning meals and introducing people to a new way of looking at nutrition.
Within the next year he wrote his first solo book, spiral bound, called “Meal Patterning”. In the meantime, Chris continued to grow the membership at the MAC and his personal training became elite, earning $1,000,000 in revenue, one of the first personal training programs in the country to do so. In 2003 he took “Meal Patterning” to the next level and re-wrote it, creating a self published hard copy as well as an audio CD. In 2006 He met with a branding specialist and developed and created “On Target Living”.
He then came out with two books called “On Target Living Nutrition” and “On Target Living Cooking”. At the time the “on Target Living” version of the food target was created. Chris left MAC in 2008 to start speaking full-time. In the next few years he created two fitness DVDs. In 2012, he created the “Kids Food Target” and then went on to write his most recent book in 2013, “On Target Living: Your Guide to a Life of Balance, Energy and Vitality”. Chris’s services include speaking, leadership training, employee wellness, health and fitness coaching, performance training and retreats, educational and consumable products. He currently resides in Okemos, Michigan with his wife Paula and dog Dolly.
