Chris Owens (born August 20, 1989) is a Canadian professional Ice Hockey Defenceman. He is currently playing for the Missouri Mavericks of the ECHL.
Playing career
After playing Junior Hockey for P.E.I. Rocket and the Miramichi Timberwolves, Owens played five seasons for Acadia University, from which he graduated in May 2014 with a degree in Business.[1][2][3]
Owens' outstanding University Hockey play was recognized, such as when he was named to the 2011-12 CIS All-Canadian First Team.[4]
After his fourth season with Acadia University in 2013–14, Owens signed a Professional Try Out with the St. John's Ice Caps of the American Hockey League, playing in one pre-season game, before being sent to the training camp of the Ontario Reign of the ECHL, for whom he also played in one pre-season game.[5] Owens left the Reign after training camp and returned to Acadia University to play his fifth and final season of University Hockey.[3]
The Ontario Reign, which still retained Owens' ECHL playing rights for the 2014-15 season, traded his rights, along with future considerations, to the Missouri Mavericks of the ECHL in exchange for Josh Brittain.[6] On March 18, 2015, Owens left Acadia University to join the Mavericks' roster for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.[7]
On July 1, 2015, Owens re-signed with the Mavericks for the 2015-16 season.[8]
