Christian Skår Winther (born 8 May 1989 in Ålesund, Norway) is a Norwegian musician (guitar) and the older brother of jazz drummer Andreas Skår Winther (b. 1991), known from bands like Monkey Plot and Ich Bin N!ntendo.[1]

Career

Winther focuses on experimental and alternative expressions, mostly with the help from an acoustic or electric guitar. The expressions varies as the bands are many, noisepunk from Ich Bin N!ntendo, acoustic improvised music from Monkey Plot, alternative rock from Karokh and edgy songswriting from Girl, as well as other projects and solo works. Most of Winther's work surrounds the field of free improvised music, though also composing original works. He is educated from the Improvised Music and Jazz Department at the Norwegian Academy of Music with a Master Performance Degree, and in 2014 awarded "Young Jazz Musician of The Year" at Molde International Jazz Festival together with Monkey Plot.

Winther collaborated on the album release Ich Bin N!ntendo & Mats Gustafsson (2012) including Joakim Heibø Johansen (drums) and Magnus Skavhaug Nergaard (bass guitar), featuring Mats Olof Gustafsson (baritone saxophone).[2] Within the trio Monkey Plot including Magnus Skavhaug Nergaard (double bass) and Jan Martin Gismervik (drums and percussion), he released the latest album Løv Og Lette Vimpler (2013).[3] He is also known from a series of collaborations and solo performances on local venues in Ålesund, like the trioproject with Natalie Sandtorv and his brother Andreas Skår Winther at the Julejazz in 2013.[4]
