Chum Saeng (Thai: ชุมà¹à¸ªà¸‡) is a district (amphoe) in Nakhon Sawan Province, northern Thailand.
History
Chum Saeng is an old district of Nakhon Sawan. The government separated some part of Mueang district to establish Tambon Koei Chai. In 1903, the Interior ministry upgraded the tambon to be Amphoe Phan Lan, named after the central tambon. A few years later, the name was changed back to Koei Chai again. The district office was moved to the west bank of the Nan River and renamed to be Amphoe Chum Saeng in 1915.
The name Chum Saeng in Thai is the name of a herb tree that look like Chaeng trees (ต้นà¹à¸ˆà¸‡) (Maerua siamensis (Kurz) Pax.). Another possible origin of the name may date back the reign of King Taksin, when in the area was a weapon warehouse, named Khlang Saeng (คลังà¹à¸ªà¸‡) in Thai.
Geography
Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Pho Thale and Bang Mun Nak of Phichit Province, Nong Bua, Tha Tako, Mueang Nakhon Sawan and Kao Liao of Nakhon Sawan Province.
Administration
The district is subdivided into 12 subdistricts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 131 villages (muban). Chum Saeng is a town (thesaban mueang) covering the whole tambon Chum Saeng. Thap Krit is a township (thesaban tambon) covering parts of the same-named tambon. There are further 11 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
