St. Philibert's Church in Tournus

Saint-Philibert de Tournus is a church and former Benedictine abbey in Tournus, France. It was founded in 875 by monks fleeing Viking raids on the community on Noirmoutier. The present building, which dates from about 950, is of the early First Romanesque style of Burgundy, which began to use further Romanesque and early Gothic styles during the beginning of the 11th century. This building is also known for its westwork, which is a stone facade. It can also be described as lithic in that it has heavy masonry walls and few windows.

Around 863 the monk Ermentarius wrote a history of the transfer of the monastery and the relics of Philibert of Jumièges.
