Citizen is a rock band from Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio.[1]

History

The band formed in the year 2009 while still in high-school. Their first release was a pop punk demo, after which the band modified their genre to adopt a more indie rock sound. In early 2012, the band signed to Run For Cover Records.[2][3] The band released their first full-length album in 2013 titled Youth. The album was recorded in Studio 4 with producer Will Yip (Title Fight, Circa Survive, Braid). In June 2014, the band announced they would be going on a fall tour in support of Youth, starting early September in Toronto, Canada, and ending mid-October in Cleveland, Ohio. The tour was supported by the bands You Blew It!, Hostage Calm, Praise, and True Love.[4][5] In late July 2014, the band released a single titled Silo on Run for Cover Records.[6] On April 26, Citizen announced plans to release their second full-length album, Everybody Is Going to Heaven, on June 23, 2015 via Run For Cover.[7] The album was made available for streaming via Run for Cover's Bandcamp page on June 9, 2015.[8] The album charted at number 2 on the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart.[9]

On the 2nd May 2016 the band made the song 'Nail In Your Hand' available for free download from their website [10]

Style

AllMusic biographer Jason Lymangrover called the band's sound was merge of "bombastic emo pop, post-hardcore, and thick, chunky indie rock".[11] The band have been described as indie rock.[12] Youth has been described as emo,[12][13][14][15] grunge,[13] indie rock,[14] pop punk,[15] post-hardcore,[12] and punk rock.[14] Everybody Is Going to Heaven has been described as alternative rock,[16] emo,[17] grunge[16] and shoegaze.[15][17]
