Claire Daly

Claire Daly (born 1958), baritone saxophonist and composer. Six time winner of the Down Beat Critics' Poll "Talent Deserving Wider Recognition" and winner of the Jazz Journalists Association's "Baritone Saxophonist of the Year" category in 2005. Daly began to play jazz seriously as a teen, after hearing a big band perform at a local community center in Westchester County, New York, where she grew up. She attended the Berklee College of Music. Daly teaches through Jazz at Lincoln Center's middle school jazz program. She recorded two CDs as leader on Koch Jazz, "Swing Low" and "Movin' On" (now re-released on her own Dalybread Records) as well as "Heaven Help Us All" (Dalybread Records), and "Nothing to Lose: The Mary Joyce Project." Her latest recording is a collection of Thelonious Monk compositions, "Baritone Monk."
