Class Central is a free online education platform that aggregates open online course from MOOC websites.[1][2] It aggregates courses from providers like Coursera, Udacity, edX, & others that offer courses in a wide range of disciplines to a worldwide student body from universities and companies.[3][4][5][6]

History

Class Central was founded in November 2011 by Dhawal Shah to keep track of free online courses from Stanford.[7][8][9] While doing an AI class from Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig, Shah noticed number of free online courses from Stanford popping up and built Class Central to keep track of them.[10] In November 2013, Class Central received seed funding from Imagine K12, an education startup accelerator provides support and funding to tech companies in the education market.[11]

Courses

Class Central is a directory of free online courses and MOOCs in various disciplines.[12] The website lists courses in a variety of areas, including Computer Science, Engineering, Humanities, Mathematics, Medicine, Biology, Social Sciences, Business, Management, Data Science, Education and Teaching.[13][14] As of Jan 2016, Class Central tracks around 4500 free online courses from more than 550 universities worldwide.[15]

Functionality

Class Central aggregates courses from all reputable MOOC providers like Coursera, edX, Udacity, and others.[16] The website allows individuals to search through these courses and provides crowdsourced reviews.[17] Users can sign up and build their catalogue of courses.[18]
