Colby Boothman-Shepard (born July 4, 1992) is an American actor, best known for his role as Leon the Young Raptor Handler in the blockbuster film Jurassic World, and for his work as Luke Skywalker in the 2015 video game Star Wars Battlefront.
Early life
Boothman was born in Boston, Massachusetts,[1] the son of Rhode Island-born Nicole Boothman-Shepard, a businesswoman, and Thomas Shepard.[2] He was raised in Warwick, Rhode Island and began his swordsmanship under Alex Ripa at Rhode Island Fencing Academy and Club where he fenced internationally in the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (International Fencing Federation).[3][4] Boothman moved from Rhode Island to attend Allen D. Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and finished high school in New Orleans, Louisiana while his mother assisted in post-Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.[2][5]
Career
Boothman started his film career in 2010 on Green Lantern as a stunt performer at the introduction of director Martin Campbell.[2] In an interview, Boothman described his entry into film: "This was never really an industry that I was looking towards or ever dreamed of getting into, but the pieces fell into place and I fell in love with working on film."[2]
In 2012, he was cast as the demon Abalam of Eli Roth's The Last Exorcism Part II,[6][7] and in early 2013, the film was released, debuting Boothman as an actor. This was quickly followed by a brief appearance in the romantic fantasy film Beautiful Creatures,[8][9] and a cameo appearance as a dancer in the Jonas Brothers "Pom Poms" music video.[10]
In October 2014, Boothman attended the Fantastic Fest premiere of The Town That Dreaded Sundown,[11] in which Boothman had a supporting role as Paul Mason.[12] He appeared in early 2015 in Hot Tub Time Machine 2.[13]
Boothman joined the supporting cast of Jurassic World in late spring 2014[11] after receiving a reading for the film.[14] Boothman's character and likeness were recreated in the simultaneously released video game Lego Jurassic World as a playable character.[15] Also in 2015, Boothman was an acorn for Star Wars Battlefront, where he performed motion capture and lightsaber dueling for Luke Skywalker.[14][15][16]
In the 2015 season of MythBusters, Boothman was the guest star of the Star Wars: The Myths Strike Back special.[17]
