Comics & Cola is a comics website focusing on small-press, independent, and self-published comics, featuring previews, interviews, reviews and news. Owned and written by Zainab Akhtar, the site was nominated in 2014 for an Eisner Award.[1]

History

Founded in 2011, the site moved from a general focus to specifically writing about comics. Primarily focused on small-press and independent comics, the site is also notable for being one of the few English-language sites to routinely cover international comics.

Akhtar has subsequently also written for The Beat,[2] Forbidden Planet[3] and The Comics Journal,[4] although now writes solely for Comics & Cola. In an interview for The Comics Reporter, she said "It's important to be able to own your work, and it's not helpful ambitions-wise if people aren't even aware you've written it."[5]

In 2013 the site was relaunched with a new layout and header image by Isaac Lenkiewicsz.[6] New recurring features have been added including 'Comics Shelfie', in which comic creators share photos of their personal comics collections. Among contributors to the feature have been Joe Keatinge, Kate Brown, and Joe Decie.
