Companisto is an international equity-based crowdfunding website. It was founded by the lawyers David Rhotert and Tamo Zwinge in June 2012, in Berlin. Investments are between 5 and 500,000 Euros per Investor with no limit on how much funding a startup can raise.[1]
About
Companisto allows investors - called Companists - to invest in promising startups. In return, they become shareholders and are entitled to a share of any profits, as well as potentially benefitting from an exit.
Companisto claims to have a very much focus on quality. “The other platforms have an approach where there are a lot of campaigns and virtually anyone can upload one to the site. But of course, that leads to having quite a few campaigns that don’t have very high potential. Our startups and investment proposals are usually startups that have already gotten substantial investments from business angels or VCs.”[2]
Companisto has over 50.000 investors from 79 countries. The value of the crowdfinanced Startups on Companisto increased 23,24% in three years, from 83,51 million Euro to 102,92 million Euro. 5 of 38 crowdfinanced Start-ups field for insolvency. That's 5,57% of all in companisto invested capital. The value of the investors’ shares has increased by 15.32% on average.[3][4][5]
Companisto ist member of the European Crowdfunding Network.
History
Companisto investors have funded 18 startups in the first twelve months.[6] As of April 10, 2014, 29 startups were funded with a collective amount of 5 Million € by investors from 47 different countries.[7][8][9]
With the funding of Wonderpots (500,000 € in one week by 892 investors) Companisto broke a European crowdfunding record.[10] In July, 2014 Weissenhaus raised 1.2 Million € in first 3.5 days in Europe's first ever real estate crowdfunding.[11][12] In August, 2014 it reached 4 Million €, making it the biggest crowdinvesting in Europe.[13][14] All in all Weissenhaus could collect 7.5 Million €.
Since March, 2014, the English-language site has allowed submissions from any business based in Europe, and investments from anywhere in the world.[7][15]
