Complete Works of Voltaire

The Complete Works of Voltaire (Œuvres complètes de Voltaire) published by the Voltaire Foundation is the first critical edition[1] of the totality of Voltaire’s writings (in the original French) arranged chronologically to untangle the evolution of his thought through his long career. The project was started by Theodore Besterman.[2] Each text is revealed anew thanks to an introduction, variants and a comprehensive annotation. The first volume was published in 1968; the edition will comprise nearly 200 volumes by its completion in 2018.
