Copernic Desktop Search is a free & commercial desktop search utility for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. Two versions of the product are made which target different market segments.
Copernic Desktop Search performs a search using file names, file contents and metadata based on an index it creates. As items are added, changed or removed from the computer, incremental indexing is performed in the background using idle system resources.[1]
The product used to include a deskbar that provides an input area on the Windows Taskbar,[1] but that functionality was removed in version 4. It was replaced by a shorcut: Press CTRL twice.
As of version 4.0, there are two editions, the standard one and a "Lite" one. The "lite" edition is free for non-commercial use, and does not support network or external hard drive indexing, Outlook appointments, tasks, and notes indexing, saved searches and find-as-you-type. It also only shows previews if the user accepts advertisements, and is limited to indexing 75,000 files.[2]
