Cordovas

Cordovas is an American band created in 2011 by musician Joe Firstman based out of Nashville, Tennessee and Los Angeles, CA. Cordovas is an ever-revolving collaborative band. Members past and present include Joe Firstman, David Regelin, Toby Weaver, Graham Spillman, Jaron Lowenstein, Paul Allen, Pearl Charles, Lucca Soria, and Jon Loyd.

Cordovas self-titled first full length studio album was produced in 2011 by Rick Parker of Sandbox Studios in Los Angeles, California. The band released a live album Cordovas Live from Nashville later that year. "Recorded a few short months and fifty-odd tour dates after the release of the Cordovas’ self-titled debut, Live in Nashville shows the group hitting their collective stride like a ton of bricks hurled at warp speed through the window of some imaginary house of blues, bluegrass, country, and jam-based rock. The album comprises nine original tracks from the Cordovas’ energy-drenched performance at 3rd and Lindsley, in the town where the band originated. Fittingly, much of the subject matter on Live in Nashville centers on the idea of coming home, both literally (“Old Dog” and “Angel Moon”) and spiritually (“All I Found” and “Feel Good to Be Free”). While it’s tempting to characterize the Cordovas as a throwback to 1970s-era Capricorn label artists, that designation falls short. The Cordovas aren’t tethered to a specific geographical location but to a set of ideas: pure musicianship and earnest songwriting. Their songs would sound just as good played live on your neighbor’s porch, stripped of the bells and whistles that a studio session could provide. Simply put, the Cordovas are a must-see live act."[1]

The second full length studio album from Cordovas was released in May of 2014, entitled "Love Bravely." Blogger Terra James-Jura writes in the Brooklyn-based music magazine, The Deli Magazine: "Their second full length album, 'Love Bravely' was released this May, and it is magic. The Cordovas hit upon a very fluid form of alt-rock, channeling the bare bones grit of the Black Keys as well as the reverent soul of Matisyahu. There are also elements of R&B and funk, with a few instances that could have been at home on a Modest Mouse album, all potential to make for a band trying to do too much at once if it weren't for the capable direction of creator Joe Firstman. In addition to being a bottomless well of natural songwriting talent with years of touring experience with A-list acts, Firstman can claim four years acting as bandleader for The Carson Daly show. The role required a high level of day-to-day adaptability, which plays strongly into the polish and cohesion of 'Love Bravely.' There's something magnetic here."[2]

Early in 2015, Cordovas released an EP entitled "Prison Guards EP."

Cordovas played sets at the Wakarusa Music Festival, Charleston Southern Ground Festival, Todos Santos Music Festival, and consistently tours throughout the year.
