Cory Atkins

Cory Atkins (February 10, 1949) is an American state legislator serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. She is a Concord resident and a member of the Democratic Party.[1]

Background

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Atkins went to Burdett Business School and then received her bachelor's degree from University of Massachusetts Boston. She is an instructor at Middlesex Community College and writes a political newspaper column and travel column. She was married to Chester G. Atkins who also served in the Massachusetts General Court and in the United States House of Representatives, but has been separated from him for several years.[2]

Politics

In May 2009, Ms. Atkins voted to increase the sales tax rate in Massachusetts from 5 percent to 6.25 percent.[3]

On January 22, 2013 Ms. Atkins, whose district includes part of Hanscom Field, a busy general aviation airport, introduced House Bill 2490, which would make aircraft subject to Massachusetts's 6.25 percent sales tax.

Also on January 22, 2013, Ms. Atkins introduced House Bill 2491, authorizing the town of Concord to impose an income tax on its residents.[4]
