Councillor Island
Councillor Island is an island with an area of 10.53 ha, in south-eastern Australia. It is part of Tasmania’s New Year Island Group,[1] which includes the much larger King Island, lying north-west of Tasmania in Bass Strait. The island forms part of the King Island Important Bird Area because of its importance for breeding seabirds and waders.[2]
Fauna
Breeding seabird and shorebird species include little penguin, short-tailed shearwater, fairy prion, common diving-petrel, Pacific gull, silver gull, sooty oystercatcher, black-faced cormorant and Caspian tern. Reptiles include eastern blue-tongued lizard.[3]
