Courtney Thorpe
Courtney Thorpe (born 11 July 1990 Brisbane, Australia) is an Australian actress, model, TV Host and beauty pageant titleholder She won her national title, Miss World Australia, on 27 July 2014. In 2013 she participated in Miss Universe Australia and placed as a national finalist after competing in Miss Tourism Australia in 2012 where she was also successful as a national finalist.
Biography
Courtney was born in Brisbane, Queensland to parents Glen and Vicki Thorpe. Her love of fashion began at an early age, where she claims it all began looking over her mother’s shoulder at a vogue magazine. Since this early introduction, she trained as a fashion stylist, makeup artist and worked as a fashion editor for an international online publication and, until winning her title of Miss World Australia, she ran the Styling Department at Queensland’s leading fashion college. She describes herself as family girl, and a city girl with a country girl alter-ego with a love for the outdoors and travel.
Miss World Australia 2014
Thorpe beat 49 finalists from around the country to be crowned Miss World Australia on 27 July 2014. She went on to represent Australia in the Miss World International competition in London, England.
Miss World 2014
Courtney was awarded the Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty, Oceania on 14 December 2014, after placing in the final Top 5 of the international Miss World competition. Thorpe also placed as a finalist in almost all of the challenge events including Top Model, Health and Fitness, Interview, Beauty with a Purpose (Charity), Multimedia and was in the final top 10 of the People’s Choice Award.
As the reigning Miss World Oceania, Courtney will be travelling with the Miss World organisation, accompanying the current Miss World and her close friend Rolene Strauss.
Charity work
Courtney is an ambassador for the International Beauty with a Purpose Charity as a former Beauty Queen. This has seen her actively involved in providing aid for the Lilla Community, a remote Indigenous community located in the Northern Territory, Australia. Courtney is also involved with Variety, the Children's Charity, and closely supports Pink Hope Australia after watching her grandmother suffer breast cancer.
Education
Thorpe is a qualified fashion stylist, makeup artist, primary educator and has recently returned to university to study Law.
Career
Having developed a true passion for the Miss World charity and the meaning behind “Beauty with a Purpose” Courtney has worked closely with charities such as Variety- The Children’s Charity, Pink Hope and the Lilla Community, an indigenous community in the Northern Territory where she focused specifically on providing further opportunities for education the children for the children of the community. She is a current ambassador for the Australia Zoo Koala Conservation program.
As well as a charity ambassador, Courtney works with a number of brands in an ambassadorial role and is the current face of Oaks Hotels and Resorts and Ardell Lashes, and is closely aligned with brands such as American Tourister, Sheike, The Amored Club, Honey & Beau and more.
Before becoming Miss World Australia and Oceania, Courtney found success in the fashion industry and was working as the Head Stylist at a leading Fashion School in Queensland and as a Fashion Editor for an international online publication. Her background as a stylist and qualified makeup artist lead her to these coveted positions but she says what helped her most was her experience in the modelling industry which saw her work both around Australia and Internationally as a runway, commercial and editorial model.
Having a natural talent for speaking, industry professionals also quickly picked Courtney up for hosting and presenting roles for fashion, corporate and commercial events. This is where Courtney discovered her love for working in front of the camera and has since developed her skills and qualifications in presenting with hopes of perusing this further and hopes this will also lead to an acting career on Australian television.
Courtney is also focusing on using her title as a positive influence to women by promoting and encouraging healthy body image and sharing her knowledge in fashion, beauty and deportment through several projects including a video blog, mentoring workshops and appearances.
After establishing her own business in 2013, Courtney is planning on continuing to grow Image Training Academy. I.T.A offers courses in styling, personal grooming and presentation, modelling and pageant training for both men and women.
Having recently returned to university, Thorpe claims her priority is focusing on her Law degree with plans of practicing as a lawyer before moving into politics. Thorpe has recently started a new job at a well known Brisbane Law Firm.
Personal life
Thorpe was rumoured to be dating Australian Actor and former Home and Away star Lincoln Lewis, son of football legend Wally Lewis in 2014.[1] She has confirmed she is currently single.
