Upon its release, Crash & Burn received mixed reviews. Soultracks gave the album a favorable review, stating that "rash & Burn accomplishes the exact opposite, demonstrating to the world that just because Traci is the most low-key of the Braxton sisters doesn't mean that she has little to say. The middle Braxton daughter may be unsure about the fate of her marriage and have some catching up to do with Toni and Tamar as far as polish goes (less Auto-Tune would also be a good start), but one listen to the CD will exemplify the title track's lyrical mission statement, a message that Traci sings as if her very life depended on it: have success in the fullness of time, and with the right intentions, or it isn't truly success at all: "If I fall then let me fall, even if I crash and burn/I will be shooting for the stars, but if you bring me down to earth, it's all good." Recommended."[6]
AllMusic's Andy Kellman gave the album 3 stars out of 5, commenting that "Crash & Burn offers a decent assortment of adult-oriented R&B songs that explore heartbreak, romance, lust, and perseverance. While most of the songs are undoubtedly contemporary and sleek, not one of them comes off as an attempt to contend with releases from artists half Braxton's age. In fact, the lone guest appearance here comes from Raheem DeVaughn, an ideal collaborator for Braxton. Fans of mature R&B who can forgive considerable Auto-Tune usage should find plenty to like here."[5]
Singles
"Last Call" was released as the lead single from the album on July 15, 2014. Commercial performance
In the United States, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers Album chart,[9] number 11 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and number 18 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with sales of 4,000 in it's first week.[10]
