Cropped Out is an annual multi-venue music festival in Louisville, Kentucky, organized by James Ardery and Ryan Davis in 2010 to present independent bands and a general DIY scene in a smaller, more affordable setting. While showcasing indie and experimental bands there is also a big emphasis on local Kentucky music and local trades such as music vendors and food trucks. The primary genres featured in the festival are Indie rock and post-punk but deviate into other genres like avant-garde, free jazz, hardcore punk, noise rock and even hip-hop and alternative country. Cropped Out has close ties with Drag City Records, Thrill Jockey Records, Sophomore Lounge among other independent labels.

In its first year it was done in the first week of October at Kingfish and American Turner's music hall, both right by the Ohio River.[1] The inaugural festival was run by literally the two organizers and their parents.[2] Thus, plans were changed and the next year was in November at a DIY venue entitled "The Crummy Den". Timing issues and a noise complaint that caused Scratch Acid's set to be cut short led to the Cropped Out team changing plans.[3]

Since 2012 the festival has been held at American Turner's on Friday and Saturday while the Sunday show is held at a random DIY venue. Food trucks, vendors and camping were added options on the American Turner's dates. Notably on the local emphasis Cropped Out has had performances by Louisville bands and musicians rarely seen or even reuniting such as Papa M,[4] The Endtables, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy[5] (Performing Superwolf with Matt Sweeney), The Belgian Waffles! and more.
