Cryptanaerobacter is a genus in the phylum Firmicutes (Bacteria).[1]

Etymology

The name Cryptanaerobacter derives from:
Greek adjective cryptos (κρυπτός), hidden; Greek prefix an (ἄν), not; Greek noun aer, aeros (ἀήρ, ἀέρος), air; New Latin masculine gender noun, a rodbacter, nominally meaning "a rod", but in effect meaning a bacterium, rod; New Latin masculine gender noun Cryptanaerobacter, an anaerobic rod that is hidden within the consortium.[2]

Species

The genus contains a single species,[2] namely C. phenolicus ( Juteau et al. 2005, (Type species of the genus).; New Latin noun phenol -olis, phenol; Latin masculine gender suff. -icus, suffix used in adjectives with the sense of belonging to; New Latin masculine gender adjective phenolicus, belonging to phenol.)[3]
