Cue (clothing)

Cue The first Cue store opened in the Strand Arcade, Sydney,[1] in 1968 bringing fast, reactive fashion to Australia.

History

In the beginning, Cue concentrated on bringing the latest looks from London to the Australian market, from exclusive prints inspired by Biba and Ossie Clarke, to key trends such as mini dresses made famous by Jean Shrimpton and Mary Quant. Today, Cue continues to deliver exclusive new designs in store every week.

Cue stores can be found in all major cities throughout Australia and New Zealand as well as a dedicated Cue department on the fashion floor of every Myer store - Australia's exclusive department store Home of Cue.[2] Cue also has an online store.

Cue is still a family-owned company - by the same family that started it all back in 1968 [3] - and is 100% Australian owned.

All Cue designs originate from its head office in Surry Hills, Sydney,[4] and almost everything is made in Australia - with the exception of shirting, knitwear, accessories and the Cue in the City label.[3]

Cue works closely with its makers and the TCFUA Union to maintain an ethical workplace for its Australian manufacturers.

Cue also works with prestigious fabric mills in Europe to develop exclusive fabrics and print designs.

Cue Clothing Co. – Group of Companies

Veronika Maine

Veronika Maine is a division of the Cue Clothing Co. Since its inception in 1998, the brand has experienced significant growth to become a leader in Australian fashion. Renowned for technical innovation, exclusive prints and high quality fabric, Veronika Maine is available at stores in Australia and New Zealand, and exclusive to David Jones nationally.

Dion Lee

In 2013, the Cue Clothing Co. entered into a strategic partnership with Dion Lee, assuming a shareholding in the label. The Cue Clothing Co. and Dion Lee partnership is an opportunity to develop and accelerate Dion Lee’s domestic and international growth. Dion Lee will remain independent from Cue and Veronika Maine. The venture, which was founded on the basis of mutual respect for each other’s brands and shared synergies between the two companies, will see Dion Lee remain autonomous in the daily operations of the business.

Cue and Dion Lee were honoured together at the 2013 Prix de marie claire Awards – Dion Lee was awarded ‘Best Australian Fashion Brand’ whilst Cue was awarded ‘Best Australian Fashion Brand’ (Readers’ Choice) for the third time.

In addition, of eight Australian designers working in the industry today, Dion and two key members of the Cue Design team, were selected by the Sydney Powerhouse Museum to appear in its ‘Making it: 20 Years of Student Fashion’ exhibition.
