Çukurca, (Kurdish: Çelê), is a district of Hakkari Province of Turkey close to Iraq. The mayor is Servet Tunç (BDP). The population is 5283 as of 2010. The historical Assyrian tribe of Tyari was located in this district.

Assyrian genocide

Until 1915 the village had a majority population of Assyrian Jews and north of the village was the Assyrian Tyari tribe, both Christian and Jewish populations were massacred by the Turkish Ottoman government or fled to northern Iraq. The last Jews left in 1950, a few years after Israel was established. Since then there are no Aramaic-speaking inhabitants in the village, however it seems that there are some Islamized and Kurdified Jews in the village.

Climate

Çukurca has a hot-summer subtype (Köppen: Dsa) of the humid continental climate.
