Culrav (Hindi: कलरव) is the cultural festival of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad (MNNIT or simply NIT Allahabad). It is a 5 days long annual festival celebrated at national level in early week of April. Culrav gives a platform to the students of MNNIT and those all over India to participate in events which are diverse and exciting. It is one of the biggest inter college cultural festival of North India. Hemendu Sinha (1989 Batch) coined this name in 1987 and since then it has been continuing. Previous performers in Culrav include Farhan Akhtar, Suraj Jagan, Shruti Pathak, Bandish band and Euphoria.

For student talks session, Curalv has been known to have invited eminent guests like Gulzar , Munnwar Rana, Ashok chakradhar Anupam Kher, Ronnie Screwvala , Piyush Mishra, Amit bahl among the likes


Competitions

Culrav being diverse in nature comprises many events:

Natya Manch

It is a dramatics event composed of Rang Manch, Nukkad natak, Nautanki, Q-tiyapa, chalchitra in it.

Darkroom

It is a photography competition. Both theme-based and non-theme-based photographic events are included.

Rangsaaji

This is the competition of art lovers. There are many sub-competitions under this heading.

Folk Dance

This competition comprises various categories of folk dances including Bhangra, Rajasthani, Garba, Bengali and many more. It is the best event for viewers to see the cultures from all around India on just one floor.

The Lit-Muse Test

It is an English literary competition.

Razmatazz

The name "Razzmatazz" was coined by Sapan Saxena(2008). This includes Western dance competition and street dance.

Anunad

This is a musical event with two subcategories: namely Eastern and Western. There are 2 rounds: the elimination round and then the next round. Participants are expected to sing without any instrument in the elimination round where their voice is tested by the jury. Then in the next round the qualified participants sing with orchestra.

Srishti

This competition is to judge how good you are in speaking, writing, and understanding the national language, Hindi. There are also may sub-events under this category:

Glam Street

Students who are fashion-awakened come onto the floor of Culrav to show their imagination in the language of fancy clothes and lot of style.

Lok Tarang

The Lok Tarang competition truly depicts the varied cultures and traditions in India be it the Bihu of Assam, Dol-Cholom of Manipur, Ghoomar of Rajasthan or Chhau of Bihar, each of the Indian folk dance forms comes across as a reflection of the deep sited beliefs and traditions of a particular culture.

Organization

The festival is organized by the students, under the guidance of SAC president. A core team is formed consisting of final year students. The core team comprises

  1. 6 GS (Festival sectretaries)
  2. Public Relation coordinator.
  3. Marketing coordinators.
  4. Hospitality coordinator

Then a team is formed consisting of head of each events and competitions finance, marketing and public relations. Each category of competition is managed by coordinators with help of secretaries and volunteers.

Culrav draws students from most of the reputed colleges of India like IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, IT-BHU, NIT Bhopal, Allahabad University, BHU, IIIT-A, HBTI, IET Lucknow and many others colleges.
