The Cyprus International Film Festival (CIFF) is an annual film festival held in Cyprus. The festival takes place in Nicosia in cooperation with the University of Nicosia and the Friends of Cinema Society.[1][2] The International Film Festival of Cyprus was established in 2004 as a non-profit organization. CIFF is the first international film festival held in Cyprus with a “competition section” in categories that include feature, short, animation, video art/dance/music, humanitarian, sport, and children films, devoted exclusively to independent emerging filmmakers.

Awards and features

The festival presents its CIFF Golden Aphrodite, Silver Aphrodite and Special Awards selected by a jury committee; it also features seminars, workshops and conferences for upcoming directors.[3]

Impact

The Cyprus International Film Festival is inspired by a group of dedicated individuals, event organizers, film producers, cinema experts, multimedia and audio visual specialists.The festival offers the opportunity to young aspiring directors from all over the world, to present their work in front of a Jury Committee and to receive a form of recognition through one of the awards.[4] The event runs annually every October since 2006 and has since then received accumulative recognition from international media. In 2011 it received film submissions from 95 countries.
