Fasasi Mobolaji Gaius (born October 5, 1993), known as Da Emperor, is a Nigerian indigenous rapper, actor and songwriter with family roots in Ogun State, Nigeria.[1][2][3] His style of indigenous rap is notable, as he raps in his native language, Yoruba, and infuses Pidgin and English.[4] Da Emperor has recorded songs with artists such as Gabriel Afolayan and OritseFemi.[5] He has also played a major role in movies like Atila by Bengaz, Owo Gbana by Omogoriola Hassan, and Youth in Politics by Hector.[6]
He released his second official single titled "Firewood" which features vocals from Oritse Femi.[7] This was followed by the singles "Shake it" and "I'm a Sinner".[8][9]
Music career
In 2013, he collaborated with Canadian-based Jamaican reggae artist Kisco. Da Emperor has been featured on numerous songs from both up-and-coming as well as established artists, and has shared the stage with the likes of Davido and Tiwa Savage.[10] In February 2013, he was featured on the song "Be Ma Boo" by Afro-Pop singer Slim Joe.[11] In 2013, he released the single "Para Mode"; its music video has surpassed 100,000 YouTube views and was released in 2014.[12]
On 2 February 2014, he released a song in support of Governer Akinwunmi Ambode's campaign.[13] He then followed it up with the single "Liar" which was a cover of Chris Brown's "Loyal" featuring Lil Wayne and Tyga.[14] In November 2015, NTB unvelied him as one of its judges for Miss Photogenic Africa.[15]
In May 2015, he teamed up with Oritse Femi to released the hit song "Firewood". On 12 February 2016, he released the widely accepted single "I Am A Sinner".[16] Da Emperor has been involved in a few philanthropic activities.[17] His major drive is to take indigenous rap to a whole new level.[18] On 5 March 2016, Da Emperor was involved in an international collaboration with American artist Stylezz and English artist Shyboss.[19]
Controversy
There were speculations when some music lovers started rating Da Emperor over other indigenous rap acts like olamide but Da Emperor put an end to the controversy by replying his fans that, he respects the artistes he's being compared to and rated over as they are all representing well [20]
