DanWatch is an interdependent media and research centre that publishes investigative journalism in the public interest. Danwatch was founded in 2007 by the Danish Consumer Council, World Wide Fund for Nature, Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, Danish Church Aid and the Solstice foundation.[1]

Danwatch publishes investigations into human rights and environmental abuses in six key focus areas, primarily with a focus on developing countries and growth economies in the global south.

Purpose

The official purpose of Danwatch is to "shed light on whether and how states, investors and businesses demonstrate social responsibility toward developing countries and emerging economies.[2]"

Investigations

In 2015 Danwatch has conducted investigations into the production of Palm oil, servers and clothing from Bangladesh, as well as the final report in a series of investigations about the companies profiting from the Israeli occupation of Palestine. The investigations have been covered in other media, such as The Guardian, Danmarks Radio, Information and The National.

Awards

In 2015 Danwatch was awarded the Timbuktu-prize, the biggest prize in Denmark for critical journalism about the developing world. With the award follows a working grant for 100,000 Danish kroner that is to be used on an investigation into the danish involvement in the global arms industry.[3]
