Daniel Vallverdu (born March 17, 1986 in Valencia, Venezuela) is the head coach of the Czech professional tennis player Tomas Berdych (Dec 2014 - ongoing) and former coach of Andy Murray (2010-2014).

Vallverdu and Murray had a very successful partnership which led to many tournament wins including Olympic Gold '12 (Vallverdu was Head Coach for Team GB - Olympic Tennis), and 2 Grand Slam wins: US Open '12 and Wimbledon'13 (Vallverdu was working alongside Ivan Lendl).

In May 2015, Berdych already made progress under Vallverdu as he returned to his former top ranking (2011) of World Number 5 and then reached his career-high singles ranking of World No. 4.

Coaching History with Andy Murray

Vallverdu met Andy Murray in the Sanchez - Casal Barcelona Tennis Academy when he was 15 where they were both training to become Professional Tennis Players. The two quickly became best friends.

In June 2008, he became British tennis player Andy Murray's doubles partner for the 2008 Queen's Club Championships in London.

Vallverdu started working with Andy Murray following his split from Miles Maclagan in 2010 and became the Scot's de facto coach after he parted company with Alex Corretja in March. Vallverdu coached Murray, organised practice sessions and liaised with Darren Cahill and Sven Groeneveld. "Quiet and unassuming, Vallverdu scouts opponents and helps devise tactical plans. Despite his relative youth, he is known for his professionalism and in-depth knowledge of the game."[1]

Vallverdu worked actively alongside Ivan Lendl,[2] since Lendl joined Team Murray in 2012.[3] Vallverdu was also selected to be the Head coach of the British men's tennis team for the London Olympics 2012, in which Murray went on to win the Gold medal for Team GB.[4]

Other memorable highlights of his coaching work with Andy Murray and Ivan Lendl included two Grand Slam Victories including the US Open '12 and Wimbledon '13.

Following a split from Andy Murray in November 2014 Dani Vallverdu took on the head coaching job for Tomas Berdych - at the time ranked World Number 7.

In June 2008, he became British tennis player Andy Murray's doubles partner for the 2008 Queen's Club Championships at Queens Club in London.

Vallverdu has played for Venezuela in eight matches over six ties, including a semifinal appearance in Group I of the Americas Zone in 2005.

Personal life

He has a long-standing friendship with Andy Murray, whom he met while at the Sanchez-Casal Tennis Academy in Barcelona where they lived in the same residency.[5]

Educational Background

Vallverdu graduated from the University of Miami in 2009 with a BA in International Marketing and Finance.[6]

During his time at the University of Miami - Vallverdu was Captain of the University Tennis Team and also ACC Freshman of the year.

He received 5 all American honours, was Number 3 in the Nation in singles and Number 1 in the Nation in doubles with teammate Carl Mikael Sundberg.
