Dark Gold is the third book in Christine Feehan’s Dark Series. It takes place approximately 23 years after the events in Dark Desire. It was published in April 2000.
Synopsis
Dark Gold follows the story of Aidan Savage (twin brother to Julian) and his lifemate Alexandria Houton. Alexandria is a poor, struggling graphic designer in need of a well playing job in order to take care of her young brother Joshua. When she gets an interview of a lifetime with world renowned video game designer, Thomas Ivan, she is determined to secure the job for her brothers sake. With no money for child care, Alexandria is forced to bring her brother with her to the restaurant where the interview takes place and to leave Joshua in the care of a friend, an old homeless man. Thomas Ivan instantly is smitten with Alexandria for her beauty and is astonished at the quality of her work. Just as she is about to obtain the future she has been working so hard for, the present turns grim as a dark force shadows the restaurant. Drawn outside into the night in fear for her brother, she comes face to face with the most evil, vile creature imaginable. A vampire. With her brothers life hanging in the balance, Alexandria has no choice but to do as the vampire wishes. The vampire takes Alex and Josh to his lair, a remote cave on the ocean. The vampire drains Alex of her blood and forces her to ingest his own vile, acidic blood then leaves them to the mercy of the tides while he flees inside the cave to escape the sunlight. Alone and frightened for her brothers safety, hopelessness sets in. That evening the vampire arises to once again exchange blood with her and threatens Joshua's life but then a miracle happens and a golden man appears. He is Aiden Savage, a powerful Carpathian warrior. He quickly disposes of the vampire and then turns to Alex. Disheveled and bloodied from the assault of the vampire and the relentless battering of the tide, riddled with terrible, oozing blisters from the vampires acidic blood, Aiden believes that she is a deranged vampiress set to drain the child. Unknowing of the situation, Aiden attacks Alex and quickly drains her of her blood to end her life but is shocked to find himself seeing in color and feeling emotions for the first time in centuries. Aware of his mistake he works quickly to save her life and gives her his own powerful, Carpathian blood. However, she is brought unwillingly into a very frightening world. To once again obtain a bright future Alexandria must accept the loss of her old life and embrace her new one.
