Occupation Founder and CEO of FundRazr

Daryl Hatton is a Canadian-born entrepreneur and businessman, best known for being the founder of the crowdfunding platform FundRazr and being a part of Optio Software Inc's IPO.[1][2]

Early life and Education

Hatton was born December 18, 1961 in Grey Nuns Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He grew up in Regina and attended Campbell Collegiate until 1979. He moved to Victoria, British Columbia in 1979 and attended the University of Victoria and specialized in computer engineering.[3]

NovaSoft, Pacific Genesys Development Inc and Optio Software

Daryl Hatton found his first company Novasoft in 1988. The company created database software for clients such as BC Gas and United Oilseed Products. He found his second company Pacific Genesys Development Inc in 1990. The company launched a document automation product and was acquired by Optio Software in 1993.[4] Hatton then participated in Optio's IPO on NASDAQ in 1999 as the company's CTO.[5] Optio was acquired by Bottomline Technologies Ltd in 2008 and Hatton left the company shortly after.[6]

ConnectionPoint Systems and FundRazr

Hatton received the initial inspiration for FundRazr during his stint as a children's Lacrosse head coach. He had difficulty collecting team fees from each team member, so he decided to try the request through Facebook. The collection was a success and Hatton had realized that social media had become a fundraising tool.[7]

Building on the idea, Hatton found social commerce systems company ConnectionPoint Systems Inc. in September 2008. The company's flagship product, FundRazr was subsequently launched in 2009.[8] Currently, FundRazr has raised $35-million in the last three years, and $20-million of that in the last year.[9] The company has established strategic partnerships with several major brands such as PayPal, Fox TV, DC Entertainment, and Save the Children.[10][11][12]
