Date and time notation in Thailand

Thailand also adopted ISO 8601 under national standard: TIS 1111:2535 in 1992. However, in practice, there are some variations.

Date

Thailand mainly uses the Buddhist Era which is 543 years ahead of the Gregorian year. The year CE 2016 is indicated as 2559 BE in Thailand. Despite adopting ISO 8601, Thai official date is still written in DDMMYYYY format, such as 16 July 2559 BE (2016 CE) or 16/07/2559

Time

In Thailand, official time is indicated in 24-hour clock system; however, a six-hour clock system is also used, especially in spoken language. It divides the day into four six-hour periods, with additional words added to make the night-morning-afternoon-evening distinction. Thailand is in the Asian time zone ICT (Indochina Time) and military Golf time zone G.
