Dave Bunker is the inventor of seven US patents relating to the improvement of electric guitars, bass guitars and Touch Guitars. The first, patent #2,989,884 issued in 1961, was for the "Duo-Lectar" instrument,[1] later in 1970 known as the Touch Guitar.[2] This was the second patented string instrument in America, designed and patented specifically for Tapping/Touching. Another was for the "The Astral series", a wedge design, reverse tuning guitar, in 1966. In the late 1970s, he invented the "Pro-star" guitars and basses.

In 1990, Bunker founded a new guitar company in Pennsylvania, "PBC Guitar Technology". This company was the first USA company to build American made guitars and basses for Ibanez Guitars of Japan.[3] In 1999, Bunker Guitars purchased PBC Guitars and moved the company to Washington State.
