David Charles Nye (born October 1958) is an Idaho State Judge and is a nominee to be a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Idaho.

Biography

Nye was born in October 1958, in Lynwood, California.[1][2] He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982 from Brigham Young University. He received a Juris Doctor in 1986 from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Judge George G. Granata of Idaho's Fifth Judicial District Court, from 1986 to 1987. He joined the law firm of Merrill & Merrill, Chartered, in 1987 as an associate, becoming a partner in 1989, serving at that firm until 2007. His specialty at that firm was medical malpractice and insurance law. Since 2007, he has served as a Judge for Idaho's Sixth Judicial District Court, where he presides over civil and criminal matters.[3][4]

Nomination to district court

On April 5, 2016, President Obama, on the recommendation of United States Senators Mike Crapo and Jim Risch, nominated Nye to serve as a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Idaho, to the seat vacated by Judge Edward Lodge, who took senior status on July 3, 2015. His nomination is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.[5][6]
