David Raphael Moscow (born November 14, 1974) is an American actor. He is best known for his role as the young Josh Baskin in the 1988 film Big, in which his character was magically transformed into an adult played by Tom Hanks.

Early life and education

Moscow was born in New York City, the son of Patricia (née Sterner) and Jon Moscow.[1] His mother's family is from Murray, Utah.[2] His father is Jewish and his mother is Mormon, but he was not raised in either religion.[3]

Moscow attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts in the 1990s.[4]

Career

In 1988, he played the young Josh Baskin in Big, and landed the role of David Jacobs in Newsies in 1992.[5]

He is friends with Max Casella and Luke Edwards from the latter film. Moscow was engaged to actress Kerry Washington from October 2004 to March 2007. Also in 2007, the magazine Time Out New York reported Moscow's involvement in developing sustainable and economic housing in Harlem.[6]

His younger brother Lev was an extra in Newsies and is a history teacher at The Beacon School in New York City.

Moscow is making his directorial debut in the psychological thriller, Desolation.[5] He launched a Kickstarter to help fund post production with a video reenactment of the Zoltar "wish" scene from Big.[7] The Kickstarter raised more than $70,000.[8]
