Club career
Born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Raya signed for Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2012, from Barcelona-based club UE Cornellà.[1] His good progress throughout the club's academy led Raya earning his first professional contract with the club on 26 February 2014.[2] Raya was then given thirty-three shirt ahead of the 2014–15 season.[3]
In September 2014 he signed for Southport on a months loan which was subsequently extended,[4] he played a role in the clubs cup run in the FA Cup which they eventually got knocked out by Derby County in the 3rd round.[5] After four months at the club, Raya returned to his parent club.[6]
In April 2015, he made his league debut for Blackburn Rovers starting in goal against Leeds United and kept a clean sheet in a 3–0 win at Elland Road.[7] Manager Gary Bowyer praised Raya's performance, with Raya, himself, saying his performance was good as well as keeping a clean sheet. On 30 April 2015, he signed a new three-year contract with Blackburn. On 2 May 2015 Raya started and played the full 90 minutes in a 3–2 win over Ipswich Town at Ewood Park. On 8 August 2015, he started and was preferred in goal to Jason Steele at Ewood Park against Wolves in a 2–1 defeat on the opening day of the 2015–16 season.[8][9]
