Dawgtown is an upcoming independent, traditional animated, action- drama feature film scheduled for a potential release between 2018 to 2020. The film will tell the story of a young pit bull named Max living in a brutal underground world of dog fighting, who must lead the other dogs there to a break of freedom. The movie is being directed, written, and co-produced by Jacksonville-based comic book artist Justin Murphy.
Plot
In a world of underground dog fighting, the story revolves around a pitbull named Max. As a competitor in the most highly funded pit-fighting organization in the world, he must lead the other enslaved dogs to a dangerous break for freedom, similar to the Book of Exodus.
Cast
- Jason Beghe as Mauler, a seasoned fighting dog, the alpha-male ruler of Dawgtown and Max's nemesis.
- Al Letson as the MC, a part dancer, part announcer who left his gig to become the voice and face of Dawgtown.
- George Foreman as Vicious Vic, a pitbull who has a threatening name, but has a kind heart.
- Marguerite Derricks will choreograph all the dance numbers for the Pit Girls.
- Kayla Radomski and Loriel Hennington are dancing the roles of Silver & Gold.
- TBA as Max, a young pitbull who must lead the other dogs at Dawgtown to freedom.
- TBA as Big Boss, the leader of the underground dogfighting chain.
- TBA as Athena, the lead female battle dog who becomes Max 's trainer.
Production
Production started in mid-2010, under the title Dawgtown. It was originally intended to be partially funded through Kickstarter, but after a failed attempt to reach its goal (a total budget of $70,000), it was now successfully funded through Indiegogo (although in a much more modest $12,100). The movie is currently being animated with TVPaint software. In mid-2013, Al Letson announced to play the MC announcer, and Jason Beghe announced on his official Facebook page that he will be playing Mauler.
Style
According to the official website, the movie's animation style is based on both Urban and Graffiti art.

The movie is currently scheduled to be released sometime in 2018 - 2020.
