Deakin University School of Law

Deakin Law School operates at Geelong, Melbourne and Warrnambool campuses, in Australia. It is part of Deakin University.

Deakin Law School offers Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, Master of Laws (LLM) and the Juris Doctor (JD).

The Practical Legal Skills program equips graduates with the knowledge, skills and attributes to practice law while the Professional Work Experience requirement enriches their legal education. ^[1]

Deakin Law School produces Deakin Law Review which is open to current staff and student to submit work.

Deakin Law Students' Society

All Deakin University law students, whether at Burwood, Geelong, Warrnambool or off-campus, are represented by the Deakin Law Students' Society (DLSS). It was formed on the Geelong Campus in 1993, and with the growth of the School of Law, it expanded to the Burwood Campus. The role of both chapters is to offer law students the opportunities to get the most out of their time at university, including offering career advice and organising social events.

Both chapters have their own committees, composed of volunteers, which run independently from each other. Both committees share funds, information and procedures and compete against each other in the finals of DLSS-run competitions. The Deakin Law Students' Society is a member of the Australian Law Students' Association (ALSA), a founding member of the Victorian Council of Law Students’ Societies (VCLSS) and the Victorian Women Law Students' Collective (VWLSC).

The Burwood chapter provides students with the a variety of events including careers networking nights. Many job opportunities are also listed for members.

Law Ball

The Deakin Law Students' Society (DLSS) yearly ball is known as the Deakin 'Law Ball'. Both DLSS Chapters host their own ball.

Burwood

In 2013 the Burwood Law Ball will be sponsored by Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
In 2012, the Burwood chapter held their ball at the Brighton International. There were over 400 attendees with plans to make the ball even bigger in 2013. The ball was sponsored by Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
In 2011, Law Ball was held at the Melbourne Aquarium, with 400 guests. The ball was sponsored by Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
