Debatosh Guha (Bengali:দেবতোষ গুহ ) is an Indian Antenna Researcher and a Professor in the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta.[1] He has been closely associated with the Electronics & Electrical Communication Engineering Department of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India [2] and also served the same as HAL Chair Professor.

Overview

Debatosh Guha has contributed in the areas of microstrip and dielectric resonator antennas(DRAs).[3] He is pioneer in introducing defected ground structure (DGS) integration technique for antenna applications which is now being explored and used by industries, especially for new generation air borne radar.[4] He has experimented with known and unknown modes in different dielectric resonators and explored possibilities of their uses in realizing wideband and ultra-wideband antennas with improved features.[5] He, in collaboration with a Canadian research group, has developed wireless base station antennas for commercial application.[6]

Education

He received the B. Tech., M. Tech., and Ph. D. degrees in Radio Physics and Electronics from the University of Calcutta in 1987, 1989, and 1994, respectively. He joined the same Institute [7] as a faculty member in 1994 and is currently a Professor.

Research & Academic Activities

His research interests include new modes and feeds for DRAs, mode reconfiguration techniques for hybrid and composite DRAs, Defected Ground Structure (DGS) integration technique for advanced planar antenna and arrays, and compact antennas for wireless applications.[17][18] He has mentored over 40 doctoral, post-doctoral, and masters students.

He has been closely involved with IEEE[19][20] and URSI.[21] He is currently chairing URSI Commission B in Indian national committee. He is also a member of COSPAR-URSI-SCOSTEP National Committee for 2016-2019. He served IEEE as the chair of IEEE Kolkata Section (2013-2014)[22] and also as the founding Chair of IEEE AP-MTT Kolkata Chapter established in 2004.[23] In 2007, he introduced IEEE Applied Electromagnetics Conference (AEMC) as a major biennial International meeting in India and co-chaired its first three sessions held in 2007, 2009, and 2011.[24] He also established IEEE Indian Antenna Week (IAW), an annual International Workshop with financial and technical sponsorship from the IEEE AP-Society in 2010.[25] He had chaired its first two sessions in 2010 and 2011.[26][27][28] Since 2004, he acted as a member of Technical Advisory Committee of several international conferences and has also been associated with the organisation of many other international events including APCAP, EMTS, EUCAP, URSI-GASS.

He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters[29] and has been on the Review Board of all the leading Journals in his fields.
