The Delhi International Film Festival (DIFF), Started in the year 2012, is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia.(There is evidence that there was an International Film Festival prior to this date: in 1965 "Gamperaliya" won the Silver Peacock for the Best Film ; in 1987 "Maldeniye Simion" actress Anoja Weerasianghe won the Silver Peacock for Best Actress) Held annually in the state of Delhi, the festival aims at providing a common platform for the cinemas of the world to project the excellence of the film art; contributing to the understanding and appreciation of film cultures of different nations in the context of their social and cultural ethos; and promoting friendship and cooperation among people of the world.

The festival is conducted by The Social Circle in association with Govt of National Capital Territory of DelhiNDMC and Delhi Tourism.

History

The 3rd edition of the festival was inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of BJP Delhi, Sh. Satish Upadhyay with Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, NDMC Chairman, Sh. Jalaj Shrivastava, Sandeep Marwah and others.

The festival during its eight days was graced by many eminent personalities from the field of films, politics and fashion. Part of the festival was National Award Winning filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia, Meera from Pakistan, Heeba Shah, Ashutosh Kaushik, Tasleema Nasreen, Oscar Nominated Bangladeshi Dir. Khalid Mahmood Mithu, Income Tax Commissioner Sangeeta Gupta with Mridula Garg and Eminent writer Maglesh Dabral.

With just over a month left for the 4th edition of the Delhi International Film Festival 2015, The Social Circle proudly announced its association with the Gov't of NCT Delhi.

The festival scheduled to take place from the 5th to 10th December 2015 will now be held in association with the Delhi Gov't making it the first and only International film festival of its kind to be held ever in the capital.

The Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Sh. Manish Sisodia will be the Chief Guest along with Jacqueline Fernandez at the Opening on 5th December.

- Jacqueline Fernandez, will be the special attraction with her first English feature Film, Definition of Fear.

The NDMC will be the venue partner once again with the grand opening taking place at the Central Park in Connaught Place and the screening of films at NDMC Convention Center.

The festival will have delegations from over 68 countries and will showcase best 210 films and 150 artworks from around the globe and "Gujarat Special Art Show" will be the attraction. These include Oscar nominated films as well.

-Zaklina Ostir, Eminent actress of European Cinema will be present at the opening ceremony.

-Ketan Mehta will be presented with the prestigious Minar-E-Dilli award.

-Russia will be the Country Focus and with a tribute to the showman, Legendary Raj Kapoor.

-Mozambique will be the International Film Institutional Partner.

-50 NRI and Indian poets will be the part of the festival.

-Grand historical opening first time at NDMC Central Park. Films will be showcased at NDMC Convention Center.

-Ridley Scot and YouTube’s first short fiction “Zero” will also be showcased in opening.

-Seminars on Film Market, Animation and Indian Film Market during the Festival will be the attractions.

The week long festival will also have a special showcase of art and literature at the venue.

Awards 2015

In the 3rd edition a total of 28 awards were given in various competitive categories along with the 'Life Time Achievement Award’ being conferred to the ‘Showman’, Sh. Subhash Ghai and a ‘Special Honour Award’ to Sh. Sandeep Marwah with the ‘Minar-e-Dilli’ being presented to Olympic Medallist, Sushil Kumar. In the first edition, the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ was given to Ms Sharmila Tagore and the ‘Minare Dilli’ was given to Veteran Actress Zohara Sahgal. In the 2nd edition of the festival Mr. Shatrughan Sinha was conferred with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and the chairman of DLF, Mr. K.P. Singh received the ‘Minare Dilli Award’.
